Mets Acquire OF Emil Brown From Padres
Veteran Activated to Buffalo Bisons Roster Pitchers Dillon Gee, Carlos Muniz go to Disabled List
The New York Mets today announced that they have acquired OF Emil Brown from the San Diego Padres and assigned him to the Buffalo Bisons roster. He has been activated to the Herd for tonight’s game in Durham against the Bulls (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons also announced today that RHP Dillon Gee and RHP Carlos Muniz have been placed on the team’s disabled list. Both players are suffering from right shoulder strains. Brown, 34, has played 41 games with the Portland Beavers (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League after receiving an invitation to San Diego Padres big league camp. In 41 games, Brown has hit .260 (38-146) with 13 doubles, four home runs and 22RBI. He has averaged .391 (9-23) off left-handed pitching. Brown has made 21 starts in right field, seven starts in left field, one start in center and nine as designated hitter for Portland this year. Brown has played 736 major league games since debuting with Pittsburgh in 1997. He has hit .258 with 59 home runs and 326RBI with the Pirates, Padres, Royals and Athletics. He posted career-highs of 17 home runs and 86RBI with Kansas City in 2005. Last season, Brown hit .244 (98-402) with 13 home runs and 59RBI in 117 games while with Oakland. Gee was 1-3 with a 4.09ERA in a team-high nine starts with the Bisons. Muniz was 0-3 with a 5.95ERA in 12 appearances out of the bullpen for Buffalo.
