Bisons Game Notes

TODAY’S GAME:

Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Durham Bulls in the first of a four-game series at Durham Bulls Athletic Park (7:05 p.m.). The Herd is beginning their longest roadtrip of the season as they prepare to play four games in Durham and then conclude with four games in Norfolk, June 2-5. The Bisons finished their most recent homestand with a record of 3-5.

THE PERFECT START:

RHP Fernando Nieve will make his third start for the Herd tonight. He is a perfect 2-0 in two games with the Bisons this year since being called up from Binghamton (AA) on May 18. Nieve has given Buffalo back-to-back quality starts, having allowed just two runs in six innings on May 18 against Pawtucket and two runs in six innings on May 24 to Columbus. In the two games, Nieve has racked up 11 strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work.

ROSTER MOVE:

The Mets have acquired OF Emil Brown from San Diego today and assigned him to the Bisons. The 34-year old was a spring invitee to Padres camp before hitting .260 (38-146) with four home runs and 22RBI in 41 games with Portland (AAA). Brown has played 736 career major league games with the Pirates, Padres, Royals and A’s with 59 career home runs.

LOST ARMS:

The Bisons have placed RHP Dillon Gee and RHP Carlos Muniz on the disabled list today. Both pitchers are suffering from a right shoulder strain. Gee was 1-3 with a 4.10ERA in a team-high nine starts for the Bisons. Muniz was 0-3 with a 5.95ERA in 12 relief appearances. The Herd now has six players on the disabled list with OF Bobby Kielty, INF Mark Kiger, C Mike Nickeas and INF Andy Green.

CORA JOINS HERD:

INF Alex Cora has joined the Bisons on a major league rehab assignment. The Mets placed Cora on the disabled list on May 18 with a torn ligament in his right thumb. Prior to that, Cora had hit .333 (17-51) with four doubles, a triple and four RBI in 16 games with New York.

THE REY TO GO:

INF Argenis Reyes extended his hit streak yesterday to a Bisons’ season-high nine games. Reyes went 1-3 on Thursday and has now averaged .343 (12-35) since May 19. During the streak, Reyes has scored twice and driven in five runs.
