Game #65 • Wednesday, June 16, 2010

The Diamond • Richmond, VA • 7:05 p.m.

LAST GAME: Richmond lefty Clayton Tanner racked up his fourth win with a quality start to beat Binghamton 5-2 Tuesday night at The Diamond. Tanner struck out six over six innings and allowed just two runs on six hits. Mike Antonini was not as fortunate. The southpaw worked only 4.2 innings, the second shortest start of the season for Antonini, who allowed four runs on five hits and walked a season-high three men to draw the loss. The B-Mets drew first blood in the fourth with a pair of runs on an Omir Santos RBI double and a D.J. Wabick sac fly. However, the Squirrels were quick to answer with three in the bottom of the same inning. Thomas Neal and Nick Noonan smashed RBI doubles and Clay Timpner pushed Richmond into the lead with a sac fly to left. The Flying Squirrels didn’t look back from there as Tanner carried the game through six before handing the ball to Tony Pena, Jr., who fired the seventh and eighth innings in scoreless fashion. Rafael Cova nailed down his 12th save with a 1-2-3 ninth. Nick Evans and Wabick managed two-hit days for Binghamton.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Josh Stinson will go for the B-Mets in the middle game of the three-game set tonight. In his last start, He tossed five, scoreless innings in Game 2 of
a twin bill with Bowie June 10 to earn his third win of the year. Stinson is 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA over 21 appearances (54 IP), three of which have been starts. His ERA ranks him third in the Eastern League. In 2009, Stinson split the season between Savannah (Low-A) and St. Lucie (High-A) and went 5-3 with eight saves and a 2.86 ERA in 78.2 innings combined. The Mets took him in the 37th round of the June 2006 draft.

RHP Mike MacDonald gets the call for the Flying Squirrels for his 13th start of the year. He is coming off a tough outing June 11 at Reading when he allowed a season-high, seven earned runs on 10 hits over 3.2 innings, a loss. MacDonald is 1-5 with a 4.76 ERA over 56.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .327 against the righty. With Salt Lake City (AAA) in the Angels organization last year, MacDonald went 8-13 with a 6.37 ERA in 30 appearances, 27 starts, spanning 147 innings. San Francisco signed him as a minor league free agent January 4,
2010.
