6-3-10 from: - www2.tbo.com/sports/preps/jesuit-tigers - Cambridge Christian senior baseball player Peter Miller on Thursday was named the recipient of the 2010 Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award, which is presented annually to a high school baseball player or team in recognition of outstanding athletic and scholastic achievement. Miller, a shortstop/right-handed pitcher, was presented the award by Boggs during a morning ceremony in the boardroom at the Fredrick B. Karl County Center downtown. "I look back on my career and it's just a lot of hard work paying off," Miller said. "I've always tried to be a good role model and be a Christian athlete, and it's tough sometimes, but obviously today it paid off, and to see that happen is kind of cool." In addition to carrying a 3.8 grade-point average as a home-schooled student, Miller was heavily involved in community service, visiting patients at the Shriners Hospital for Children and John Knox Village, making trips with his church, Idlewild Baptist, to downtown Tampa to feed the homeless and joining a mission trip to the Dominican Republic last summer, among other things. Miller also excelled on the baseball field, where he was a staple for the Lancers during the program's most successful stretch. Miller, who has signed to play baseball on scholarship at Florida State, helped Cambridge Christian finish as the Class 1A state runner-up in 2008 and 2009, and this year he helped the Lancers come within one win of a third consecutive trip to the state tournament.
4-12-10 from: - http://hometeam.tampabay.com/recruiting/2010/apr/12/cambridges-miller-commits-florida-state - Florida State wasn't the first school to be impressed with Cambridge pitcher/shortstop Peter Miller, but the Seminoles didn't waste any time in pursuing the senior. Miller was offered a scholarship by FSU coach Mike Martin Sr. on Thursday evening. Miller quickly accepted the offer. Miller has also received interest from several pro teams and might be one of the bay area's top draft prospects. They're obviously impressed with his live arm and pitching upside. Miller entered this season with just four high school innings under his belt, but he's flourished under Cambridge pitching coach and former first-round selection Sam Marsonek, his fastball reaching 93 mph. Scouts took interest over the fall ball season. Miller, also the Lancers' starting shortstop, has already received a scholarship offer from University of Tampa and was being recruited by Florida. But Florida State assistant Mike Martin Jr. just began recruiting Miller in mid March at the Westminster Tournament in South Florida. The 'Noles obviously came away impressed. Miller is 3-0 this season and hasn't allowed an earned run in 23 1/3 innings and has 48 strikeouts. He has been mostly used in relief, but he threw a five-inning no-hitter on March 25 in Cambridge's 30-0 win over Keswick Christian. He also is hitting .305 with nine doubles, three triples, one homer and 16 RBIs for the Lancers, who are 15-3 and playing for their third straight trip to the Class A state tournament.
