The Keepers: - #37 - RHSP Erik Goeddel

37.          Erik Goeddel:                   P

Goeddel was drafted as the 24th pick in the 2010 draft.  He made one appearance, for one inning, in 2010, for the  GCL Mets.

4-21-11: - Okay… I was thrilled when the Mets drafted Erik Goeddel and I thought it was hot that he would start this year, but, on second thought, the Gnats might want to take the pressure off the kid and re-pen him for now. Tonight: 5.0-IP, 6-H, 3-ER, 5-K, 1-BB, 6.00 ERA on the season. Yeah, I know, it’s only his third start, but even through all this… 15/K in 12.0-IP. That’s closer material.

5-2-11: - Pitcher of the night was easy here. Eric Goedell, a converted relief pitcher, put a hurtin’ down tonight: 6.0-IP, 0-R, 3-H, 9-K, 1-BB. His ERA is now down to 3.75 but his real stats are the one’s I’ve been pointing out all season: 28-K/24.0-IP.  Erik has maintained his K/IP ratio even when he had his bad outings. I still say this guy is a closer.

5-8-11: - Erik Goedell started his sixth game and pitched well. He started very strong and had his “bread-and-butter pitch (curve) spot on, but did seem to have trouble keeping both his curve and fastball down in his later innings. Erik only gave up three hits, two of which came on bunt singles. One of his best pitches was a 94-mph fastball that Rome’s Robby Heffinger slammed into the gap for a two-run scoring double. Goedell also hit 95 with two outs in the fourth inning, which might have been a first for him. In my opinion, his conversion to a starter seems to be working, and, frankly, I should back off my calling for him to be a closer.

5-23-11: - The Savannah Sand Gnats are still featuring a piggyback this late into the season. Chase Huchingson and Erik Goeddel have had their time split with Goeddel getting the ass end of the piggy. It’s obvious the team is juggling six starters, though Ryan Fraser is starting to show numbers going in the wrong direction. In my opinion, it’s time to stop screwing around here and the Gnats should start stretching out both Goeddel and Huchingson.

7-6-11: - Talked with Erik… he’s in St. Lucie still rehabbing. The plan is for him to throw his first bullpen session this week, and, if all things go well, we should see him back before the end of the season.

8-1-11: - Eric continued his rehab today for the GCL Mets, going: 3.0-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 0-K, 0-BB, 1.50. That’s three rehab starts and only one run given up. I’d like to see him back in the Savannah rotationfor a few more starts before the end of the season, but there’s no rush. Expect to see him back with the Sand Gnats in 2012.

8-7-11- Stock Up – Erik Goedell got back on the Sand Gnats’ horse Sunday after being DL’d for the better part of the season. He pitched four innings, giving up no runs, five huts, and one walk, while striking out one.  His Sally League ERA is now 2.49. His DL stint and the recent draft probably cost him any chance of starting next season in St. Lucie. I’ll be thrilled to take him back in Savannah.

8-28-11: - Stock Up – SP – Erik Goeddel – Eric continues to finish the season strong for the Sand Gnats putting up the following stats last night: 6.0-IP, 1-H, 0-R, 8-K, 3-BB. Goeddel’s combined stats at this point: 17-G, 15-St, 3-4. 3.08, 67-K, 20-BB, 73.0-IP.
