30. Kayden Porter —
6’-5”, RHP/1B, Spanish Fork HS (UT) If
Porter chooses to be a pitcher, a National League team needs to grab him.
Unbelievable power at the plate, Porter can routinely launch 450-foot+ home
runs. On the mound, his fastball reaches 93 mph with room for more velocity.
His curve sits in the low 80s with sharp break and is a nice compliment to his
fastball. With full-time duties on the mound, Porter has as high a ceiling as
anyone on this list. http://www.throughthefencebaseball.com/top-50-draft-prospects-for-2012-50-thru-26/15621/

4. C.J.
Hinojosa, SS, Klein Collins (Spring, Texas) Hinojosa was originally slated to enroll
early at Texas, but he'll be draft-eligible after all. He ranks No. 4 here
thanks to terrific hands and feet and a strong arm, as well as an ability to
square up pitches regularly. He's a plus shortstop at present but may profile
better at second base or even at the hot corner. His hands are lightning quick
and he attacks pitches on the inner half. The belief around the industry is
that his commitment to the Longhorns is strong, so that is likely to impact his
draft stock and keep him out of the top 50.
We continue the countdown today at number 12 with
Clemson junior Richie Shaffer from Charlotte,
North Carolina and Providence Senior High School. From his freshman through his
junior seasons, he.hit .401 with 21 homers and 71 RBIs while pitching 88.0
innings with a 1.65 ERA and 115 strikeouts. He was an all-state selection as a
sophomore, junior, and senior while being named the #27 high school prospect in
the nation by Baseball America, AFLAC All-American as a junior, and a 2007 USA
National Team member. As a freshman in 2010, he appeared in 48 games (44
starts) hitting .323 with 45 runs, 11 doubles, seven homers, 36 RBIs, a .409
on-base percentage, and two steals. http://ht.ly/1gMSGF
Major League Baseball has informed teams that Cuban
lefthander Onelkis Garcia will be subject to the
2012 draft. Garcia, 22, projects to go somewhere around the third round, with
most scouts reporting that he profiles as a reliever due to his control issues
and lack of a reliable third pitch. Most recently Garcia has been pitching for
the Leones del Ponce in the Puerto Rican League, where between the regular
season and the playoffs he has an ERA of 0.57 in 15 2/3 innings with 10
strikeouts and four walks. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/2012/01/cuban-lefty-onelkis-garcia-will-be-in-2012-draft/
