BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: RHP Cory Mazzoni will start the nightcap for the B-Mets. It will be his 10th start of the season, and his third against Portland. In two previous starts the righty is 1-0, but has given up 10 runs in 11.1 innings. Cory earned the win in his last start, June 20 @ Richmond. In the game, he allowed three runs on five hits over six innings of work. On the road this season, Mazzoni is 2-1 with a 3.54 ERA in four starts. Opponents are hitting .275 against him in 2013. In three starts in June, he is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA. The Mets drafted Mazzoni in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft out of North Carolina State.PORTLAND STARTING PITCHER: LHP Drake Britton pitches in his 16th game for Portland, and his 15th as a starter. In three previous starts against Binghamton, he is 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA. In 15.2 innings, he has given up nine runs and 15 hits. He received a loss in his last start, June 21 @ Trenton. He gave up a season-high eight runs in 5.1 innings. In three starts from June 5-16, he threw 22.0 innings and only gave up two total runs. In June, he is 3-1 with a 2.96 ERA in four starts. In 2013, opponents are batting .249 against Britton. He was drafted by the Red Sox in the 23rd round of the 2007 draft out of Tomball HS (TX).
PROBLEMS W/ MOTHER NATURE: Tuesday was the fourth game in the last two weeks that has been affected by the weather. The B-Mets were postponed on June 13 at Trenton and on June 18 at Richmond. The start of Monday’s game against the Sea Dogs was delayed by 84 minutes due to the threat of rain.
19 OVER .500: Binghamton currently has the best record in the Eastern League. They are 47-28, and are 19 games over .500 for the first time since August 28, 2004 (76-57). The last time Binghamton was 20 games over .500 was August 14, 2004 (70-50).
JUNE STATS: The B-Mets are 16-4 in the month of June. They are outscoring their opponents, 108-61. The pitching staff has an ERA of 2.68. Erik Goeddel is 3-0 in four starts this month, and has a 1.08 ERA. Cesar Puello has paced the offense with a .481 batting average. He also has seven home runs and 20 RBI. Allan Dykstra has 19 RBI, Danny Muno has 14, and Travis Taijeron has 12.
STOLEN BASES: In their last 14 games, Binghamton has only stolen five bases. On Monday, Portland passed them for the most stolen bases in the league (84). Binghamton has 82 this season.
BULLPEN NUMBERS: The B-Mets bullpen has not allowed a run in 15 of their last 22 games, a stretch spanning 61.0 innings. They have compiled a 1.77 ERA during that span, lowering their overall season ERA to 3.14. Pedro Feliciano has allowed no runs and one hit in his four appearances. Jeff Walters leads the league with 18 saves in 20 chances. Adam Kolarek has only allowed one run in his last 14 appearances, and has a 1.60 ERA this season.
LOOKING FOR THE SERIES WIN: A win on Wednesday would give the B-Mets their 10th straight series win. They have either won or split the last 13 series, and have not lost a series since May 6-8 when they went 1-2 at Trenton. The B-Mets have three series sweeps in 2013.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Binghamton returns home to NYSEG Stadium to start a five-game series against the Trenton Thunder. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6:35 PM, and the B-Mets send RHP Logan Verrett to the mound against RHP Zach Nuding.
