April 11th 2014 -- Angels 5, Mets 4 (11 innings)

Jeurys Familia hit Hank Conger with a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning. The Angels beat the Mets 5-4 Friday night in Anaheim. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the 3rd inning, Travis d’Arnaud hit his first homer of the year to tie the game up at 2 all. In the 4th inning, Josh Satin making his first start of 2014 doubled in a pair of runs to give the Mets a 4-2 lead. Dillon Gee started for the Mets and was on the winning side of the ledger until the bottom of the 6th when J.B. Shuck hit a 2 run homer to tie the game up at 4. That’s the way it stayed until the bottom of the 11th. Raul Ibanez led off the 11th with a single . He advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch by Famila. David Freese grounded out to short to put Ibanez on third with 1 out. Collins then had Famila intentionally walk Howie Kendrick and Shuck to load up the bases….but Famila plunked pinch hitter Conger to bring home Ibanez and give the Angels the win. Familia takes the loss he’s now 0-2. Michael Kohn got the win for the Angels he’s now 1-0. Gee went 5 2/3 he allowed 6 hits 4 runs, all earned he walked 4 and struck out 5. He gave up long balls to Mike Trout and Shuck. The Met bullpen was impressive once again allowing just the 1 run in 4 2/3 innings. The Mets managed 10 hits on the night. Daniel Murphy had a pair of hits as every batter in the starting lineup got a hit on the night. The Mets are now 4-6 on the year and 2-2 on the current road trip. Saturday night is game two of the series. Jon Niese (0-1 3.18) goes for the Mets, Jared Weaver (0-2 6.00) goes for the Halos.

I seriously don't know what it is about that magic number 90 (not ttalking about wins) but Mets really have to consider relieving Gee whenever he hits that pitch count, no matter the inning.
