Binghamton 3 - New Britian 2

Kevin Plawecki’s solo home run in the eighth inning broke a tie game and lifted the Binghamton Mets to a 3-2 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Plawecki’s drive, his second in as many games, helped Binghamton snap a five-game losing streak.
After a scoreless first three innings, New Britain got on the board in the fourth inning against B-Mets starter Tyler Pill. Nate Hanson and Reynaldo Rodriguez each singled to start the frame. Daniel Ortiz then came to the plate and singled home Hanson to give the Rock Cats a 1-0 lead.
Binghamton answered in the bottom of the frame. Matt Reynolds singled and stole second to kick-start the B-Mets offense against Taylor Rogers. Plawecki smacked a double to left field to bring Reynolds home and tie the game at one.

Binghamton kept the scoring going in the fifth. Travis Taijeron led off with a double to left field. Following a walk to Wilfredo Tovar and a passed ball, there were runners on second and third with nobody out. Kyle Johnson rolled an infield single deep in the hole at short to bring home Taijeron with the go-ahead run.

New Britain came back in the eighth against Binghamton reliever Jon Velasquez. With two outs, Corey Wimberly singled up the middle and stole second base. Brad Boyer laced a double past a diving Cory Vaughn in right-center field that plated Wimberly to knot the game at two.

With the game tied in the eight, Plawecki laced Cole Johnson’s 1-0 pitch over the left-field wall for his third longball of the season. Chasen Bradford retired the Rock Cats in order in the ninth for his ninth save.

Velasquez (3-2) gave up one run on two hits over two innings of relief and suffered his second blown save while earning his third win. Cole Johnson (0-2) was tagged with the loss. Pill allowed one run on six hits over six innings in the no-decision.

The B-Mets (25-21) continue their series against the New Britain Rock Cats on Saturday at 7:05 PM. RHP Hansel Robles takes the hill against RHP Matt Duffey for the Rock Cats. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show, starting at 6:50 PM, can be heard on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Mets Baseball Network via the TuneIn App.
