Then with two out Starling Marte broke through with a 2 run single to tie the game at 2.  Vic Black was then brought in to make his first appearance of the year and after walking his first batter, struck out pinch hitter Ike Davis to retire the side.  In the bottom of the inning Ruben Tejada singled and stole 2nd and scored on Juan Lagares’ RBI single. Daniel Murphy then hit a long RBI double to deep right to score Lagares and it was 4-2 Mets. Black also pitched a scoreless 7th adding a 2nd strike out and Jenrry  Mejia pitched the 8th and 9th for his first 2 inning save of his career and his 4th overall. Black earned the win; he’s now 1-0.  Jeanmar Gomez took the loss for Pittsburgh. Niese got the no decision going 5 2/3 allowing just 3 hits, the 2 runs (both earned) he walked 4 and struck out 2 . Buc  starter Edinson Volquez also got a no decision.  Murph, Lagares and Tejada each had 2 hits apiece.  Lagares had 2 RBI and made an amazing catch on a fly ball in the first off the bat of McCutchen, Bobby Abreu went 1 for 3 with an RBI as well.  The Mets now stand at 23-28 overall and 12-17 at home.  Wednesday afternoon the Mets look to clinch the three game series to close the home stand. Love Lagares...I'm sticking with my earliersyoung Clemente comparison unless/until he proves otherwise. For those who feel that he won't keep hitting, keep repeating to yourself, "he hit .350 in 2012, he hit .350 in 2012" and you'll get on board!

Ruben getting on 4 times last night shows he needs to be treated like a starting pitcher to be most effective - you know, go every 5th day, lots of rest between starts, and hope you get 7 quality innings out of him.

Black strikes out Ike - priceless.
