Jakson Reetz, Alex Jackson, Jeremy Vasquez, Spencer Turnbull, Bradley Zimmer, Mac Marshall

5-11-14  -  Jakson Reetz, C/OF, Norris HS (NE) - Reetz can play all over the field, and he can also hit the ball all over the field. He has proved no match for Nebraska pitching as he is hitting .588/.734/1.275 over 22 games with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 10 stolen bases. He has also drawn 22 walks and has struck out six times. His versatility makes him intriguing because of all the options he has. As a pitcher, he can hit the low-90s to go with an upper-70s slider. He can play the outfield where his arm would play well, third base where the arm and bat would play well, but catcher may be his best position, and he has all the tools to stick there. He may not be facing the best competition but he has always performed well on the showcase scene and is an alumni of Team USA Baseball. He is a day one talent but his commitment to Nebraska could make him a tough sign as there are a lot of family ties to the school. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-high-school-players-rise-final-edition/42853#cZ17mE5vsjiSvU18.99

3-16-14 – Cubs Den – It appears that Alex Jackson has emerged as the top bat in the draft.  He has the best bat speed in the draft and a plus plus arm that could play at C, 3B, or the OF, though there are some that believe Jackson prefers the OF.  He is a good athlete who handle a corner spot and should easily have the power to carry the position offensively.  He's experienced for a prep player, having started the showcase circuit as a junior in high school.  The Cubs tend to prefer college bats, but if they do go for  a high school bat, it'd be a guy like Jackson who has been tracked extensively and has more  experience vs. top competition than most people his age. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2014/03/mlb-draft-update-arms-ahead-of-bats-early-on-but-questions-remain-at-the-top/

3-26-14 – TTF – 10 high school players on the rise — third edition – Jeremy Vasquez, OF/1B, Martin County HS (FL) - Vasquez made the list last week, and he makes it again after going 14-for-20 over his last six games with nine doubles and six walks. For the season, he is now hitting a silly .596/.683/.958 over 15 games with 12 doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 walks to just three strikeouts. At 6’-1” and 200 pounds, he generates a ton of power from the left side and has an advanced approach at the plate — rarely missing a pitch. There will be added pressure put on his bat if he is relegated to first base, but the bat is special and the power is legit. One of the youngest players in his class, the upside is even greater. Committed to Florida. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-high-school-players-rise-third-edition/42098#CmrUPUJfBWKiV2MO.99

3-20-14 – Spencer Turnbull, RHP, Alabama - A power arm, the 6’-3”, 220 pound right-hander can touch 98 mph with his fastball and he adds an upper-70s curveball that is inconsistent but has a lot of potential. He also has some minor mechanical issues that need refining, but the Cubs have shown the confidence in selecting players who have a lot of potential but just need some tweaks here and there. Over 29.2 innings this season, he has a 0.31 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 26 K/15 BB, holding opponents to a .141 batting average. He also has allowed just one extra-base hit all season. Playing in the SEC, he will be facing great competition the rest of the way, making it easier for scouts to get a read on him. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2014/03/mlb-draft-a-look-at-5-college-arms-for-the-2nd-round/

3-19-14 – TTF – Bradley Zimmer, OF, San Francisco (12) - Zimmer is another guy who just keeps impressing, showing off all five tools this season. Over his last six games, he is hitting .417 with two home runs and four stolen bases. He is now up to .403/.446/.636 over 18 games with four doubles, four home runs and eight stolen bases. At 6’-5”, the left-handed hitter is showing what scouts wanted to see this year — in-game power. With his athleticism, speed and plus arm, he should stick at center field and might be the best power/speed prospect in the 2014 MLB draft. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-college-players-rise-week-5/41905#JeRjl1lAwHFUPJlv.99

3-17-14 – TTF – 10 High School Players On The Rise – Mac Marshall, LHP, Parkview HS (GA) - On March 14, Marshall struck out 10 to no walks over five no-hit innings. On the season, he now has 25 K/3 BB over 15 innings, allowing just five hits. One of the better southpaws in the 2014 MLB draft, Marshall’s fastball sits in the low/mid 90s, and he has worked hard on his delivery and command over the past year. His curveball also has plus potential. At 6’-2” and 185 pounds, he is a great athlete who has been clocked at 6.7 in the 60. Committed to LSU. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-draft-10-high-school-players-rise-second-edition/41810#OfV5L7GbWgi2Xqtf.99
