Brevard County 9 - St. Lucie 1



The Brevard County Manatees score two runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth to pull away from the St. Lucie Mets for a 9-1 victory on Thursday at Tradition Field.

Tyler Wagner pitched a gem for the Manatees. He tossed eight dominant innings, striking out eight and walking just one. The only run he gave up was a solo home run to Phillip Evans with one out in the fifth.

Wagner struck out the final two Mets he faced and ended his night with 99 pitches.

The Manatees offense roared to life in the seventh. They entered the frame leading 2-1, but Seth Lugo gave up a two-run, two-out double to Tyrone Taylor and Brevard County opened up a 4-1 advantage.

The Manatees sent 10 batters to the plate against Lugo and Beck Wheeler in the eighth, scoring five runs and belting out six hits. Mike Garza, Jose Sermo, Orlando Arcia and Taylor all had RBI hits in the frame.

Five Manatees had three-hit games: Nathan Orf, Arcia, Taylor, Garza and Sermo. Overall, the Manatees punished the Mets for 18 hits.

Luis Cessa took the loss for the Mets, although he did not pitch poorly. The first four batters of the game reached on three doubles and a single. Two scored. But Cessa settled down to strand runners and second and third. He did not allow another run.

Cessa struck out five and gave up seven hits in six innings.

The Mets only had six hits. Three came from Jairo Perez, who went 3 for 4 for the second consecutive game.

The Mets have only scored five runs in three games against the Manatees and six runs in their last four games overall. - team press release
