Sunday night at Citi Field, the Mets scored 3 runs in the
bottom of the 1st inning off Jake Arrieta. They go on to win Game 2
of the NLCS 4-1. It was Noah Syndergaard vs Jake Arrieta. The Mets wasted no
time. They took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Curtis Granderson singled. David Wright followed
with a double over the head of Dexter Fowler in center to bring home Granderson
and a 1-0 lead. Daniel Murphy then
struck again; launching a 2 run homer to right off Arrieta to make is 3-0 Mets.
In the 3rd Granderson walked. He stole 2nd as David
Wright struck out. Murphy was intentionally walked. Granderson then stole third
and scored on an infield single by Yoenis Cespedes. Syndergaard was untouchable
until the 6th. With one out Fowler singled and went to 2nd
on a wild pitch. After Schwarber struck
out, Kris Bryant hit a line double off the wall in left to bring home Fowler
with the only run off Thor. Jonathon Niese made his first post season
appearance and struck out Anthony Rizzo with Bryant on 2nd to end
the inning. Syndergaard went 5 2/3
allowing 3 hits 1 run (earned) walking 1 and striking out 9. Murphy has tied a
record hitting a home run in 4 consecutive post season games. He ties Mike Piazza with 5 homers in a single
post season, but Murph has done it in 7 games. Piazza did it in 22. Addison
Reed pitched a scoreless 7th. Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless 8th. Jeurys Familia pitched the 9th for
this 3rd save of the post season.
Murphy went 2 for 3 with the homer and 2 RBI. The Cubs only managed 5 hits. Dexter Fowler went 2 for 3. Bryant
went 2 for 3 with the double and RBI. Syndergaard is now 2-0 in the post season,
Arrieta takes the loss falling to 2-1. The Mets now lead the NLCS 2 games to 0. Game 3 is Tuesday Night at Wrigley.
Jacob deGrom (2-0 1.38) goes for the Mets, Kyle Hendricks (0-0 5.79) goes for
Chicago.
