I have
a strange question to ask. Do you think that the coronavirus will create a
quicker sale of the Mets? Let’s face it… the Wilpon’s were bleeding cash before
their chief revenue source dried up overnight. Can you imagine what their
second quarter balance sheet is going to look like? My guess, right now, is
that the Wilpons are doing everything they can to get the deal Cohen deal back
to a living, breathing thing.
Dan Szymborski had his weekly Q and A:
Bighen: should the Mets have Matz in starting rotation just
to make sure they have a lefty or is there really no benefit added there? I
think he’s better than or beats out wacha so point might be moot anyway.
Dan Szymborski: I think he’s better than Wacha
Mack – The writers on Fangraphs seems to be in
lock step on Wacha being a reliever this season.
I don’t think anything can now be determined
with this delay. My guess is it could stretch to June. What then? How long will
the players be given to get into game ready shape?

Baseball seems very likely to lose some number of games that
it won’t be able to make up over the course of the season. Given how quickly
the course of COVID-19 is changing, attempting to guess exactly how many seems
like an exercise in folly right now. But just as we are experiencing a pandemic
the scale of which is unprecedented in our lifetime, this baseball season is
likely to be without precedent as well.

I don't know how smart Steve Cohen is, but he could be bleeding cash right now like a lot of other potential buyers, what with the Wall Street crash. The only thing these guys are investing in at the moment is cash.
As you say, no determination can be made on the season until we see how the disease progresses. China and Korea seemed to move in and out relatively quickly. Europe not so much. I'd have hoped Italy would have turned the corner by now.

I don't think any of us know anything anymore.
How come South Korea is playing baseball again and we are not even close? People are talking about losing the whole season eliminating the draft. What did they do right and we do wrong?
What happened to breakfast links? I missed it this morning. I read it every morning with breakfast.
I've heard several times about the Wilpons "bleeding cash", but nothing about where the cash is going.
Is it Mets - related, leftover Madoff effect, real estate, or what?

John takes Sunday off and eats the links with his family breakfast.

The bleeding of cash by the Mets have nothing to do with other Sterling Equities properties.
It is just about the Mets cash in and cash out situation.
The stadium is tremendously leveraged. Couple this with their high payroll (entire org.), taxes, and limited attendance ... well...
A Congress person who did insider trading in February may be the only one left to have enough cash to buy a team. This drags out, and the team will be available for $10.
If there is a season, Edwin Diaz at 4th best works me. But Lugo at # 34? Way too far down. Has to be Top 20.
