D1 - In a battle between two perennial powers, No.
10 Arizona State crushed Cal State Fullerton, 12-2 {on Tuesday), on the road. Spencer Torkelson hit a towering home run in the win
and had two hits, while Drew Swift had a big night at the plate with two hits
and four RBIs. As for the Titans, they’re off to a horrid start since that
Stanford series, falling to a poor 4-8 overall before heading to Texas this
weekend.
Mack – Torkelson will be long gone before we
pick at #19. The Seth Beer of this draft.
RHP Mick Abel Jesuit
HS (Oregon)
Mick Abel is a 2020 RHP/1B with a 6-5 185 lb. frame from
Tigard, OR who attends Jesuit. Extra long and tall frame with tremendous
physical projection, young in the face. Long arm action from a 3/4's arm slot,
low energy release, looks like he's warming up when he's throwing 96 mph,
fastball gets on hitters. Slider is an elite level pitch right now at times,
tunnels it well with his fastball with a power break in the mid-80's, couple of
sliders just disappeared at the plate. Change up still developing. Incredibly
high ceiling as he fills out and gets more innings under his belt.

huge day yesterday going 4-4 3R 3RBI and this #PBRBombSquad. The #UCLA commit
is arguably one of top 2-3
PG Tyler
Soderstrom is a 2020 C/3B/OF with a 6-2 190 lb. frame from Turlock, CA who
attends Turlock. Athletic build with good present strength and room for more.
Left handed hitter, hits from a spread slightly open stance with a deep hand
load, gets his lower half involved well, has strong and quick hands and creates
bat speed, swings with intent, line drive swing plane with some lift out front,
ball comes off the barrel hard, high contact swing with bat speed, plus hitter
for a catcher and left handed, too. 6.86 runner, has athletic actions behind
the plate and moves well side to side, tends to stand up to throw but has a
quick exchange and release, solid arm strength. Well rounded all around catcher
whose offensive potential stands out at the position. Father, Steve, was the
sixth pick in the 1993 draft and pitched in the big leagues
sodomojo featured one of this year’s top
pitchers:
LHP Reid Detmers Louisville
Detmers’ fastball ranges from 90-94 MPH that plays up thanks
to deception in the 60-grade command he has. Detmers backs up the fastball with
a slow curveball that shows plus a little bit more than not. He can get both
lefties and righties out with the pitch, making it his best offering.
Detmers may not have the same upside of a Garrett Crochet or
Emerson Hancock, but will more than likely have a long career as a mid-rotation
starter. Because of his polish, Detmer has the possibility to rise quickly up
the ranks, similar to the way Logan Gilbert has done.
A Q and A
with Carlos Collazo/Baseball America –
Jeremy
(Oklahoma): The 2020 class is a large draft eligible class in Oklahoma and
across the Nation. How many Oklahoma High School baseballers will be drafted
this year?
Carlos Collazo: Good call. It's a strong year for the state.
Last year there were six HS guys taken out of Oklahoma, and if you go back to
2014 there were eight. In between those years it's typically a handful of guys
as well. I currently have eight prep guys who are in BA 500 consideration at
this point and there could be more who I'm not aware of right now that make it,
or guys who improve their stock to jump into that range. So we could be looking
at a very strong year for the state. LHP Dax Fulton,
SS/RHP Cade Horton, RHP Nate Wohlgemuth and OF Jace Bohrofen are some of the
top guys.
PG - Daxton Fulton is a 2020 LHP/1B with a 6-6 220 lb. frame
from Oklahoma City, OK who attends Mustang. Long and lean athletic build,
extremely projectable physically. High 3/4's arm slot with a short stride out
front, gets very downhill to the plate, uses his lower half well with good hip
rotation and on line release, has a couple of moving parts to provide
deception, hides the ball effectively. Steady low 90's fastball, topped out 93,
gets some nice running life with severe downhill angle. Slider is tunneled very
well off his fastball with tight biting action, has confidence in his slider
and will throw it at any time and double/triple up with it. Nice change up for
a young power pitcher. Filled up the strike zone with three quality pitches and
all of them are projectable to get better with physical maturity. Very high
ceiling talent. Showed his athleticism at the plate, left handed hitter with
good bat speed and a feel for the barrel, mid field to pull contact, has loose
hands and gets to his front side well, 7.09 runner.
