Tony Plate - Cano Believes Mets Can Win a Championship

In his second season with the Mets, Robinson Cano feels that if the Mets stay healthy, they can win the championship in 2020 meaning that as long as they are good physically, they will be good on the field. He feels that the Mets are really going to be that good.

His prediction came from thinking about the power in the lineup that includes Alonso, Conforto and Davis plus the clutch hitting of McNeil. Cano knows they can hit and play the game.

You also have to think about the possibility of Cespedes being healthy and coming back from his injuries. If he does the Mets will have to ponder where he will play.

Cano thinks that if the Mets didn’t have the injuries to him and a few other players in 2019 they wouldn’t have finished in third place. He pointed out that when the team lost players like they did, it wasn’t the same, no matter how talented the guy is who replaces the starting player.

The main thing about the team is pitching and they have plenty of it to go along with the depth in the bullpen.

Their starting rotation is one of the best in the league and is the strength of the team which added depth with the signings of free agent pitchers Rick Porcello and Michael Wacha.

They will have a vastly improved bullpen with the addition of Dellin Betances

Edwin Diaz had worked hard in Puerto Rico before spring training began to get himself in the shape that he needs to be at so he can perform well and be consistent. This is as excited about a team as Cano has been in a long time.

It won’t be easy for the Mets to represent the National League in the World Series, because the National League East has a chance to become one of the best divisions in baseball in 2020.

The World Champion Washington Nationals re-signed Stephen Strasburg and Howie Kendrick, the defending National League Eastern Division Champion Atlanta Braves signed Cole Hamels and Will Smith to free agent contracts and as all New York sports fans know the Philadelphia Phillies signed Zack Wheeler and Didi Gregorius.

Also, the Dodgers will be very tough, and they have been basically knocking on the door of a championship during the last there years. They will be very hungry for a championship in 2020.

Cano reminds me of Kamala Harris or Cory Booker, who are now touting Joe Biden for President, in hopes of getting the number two slot on the team.

Cano knows the best road to living out the remainder of his contract is being the clubhouse PR guy of this team a la Curtis Granderson.

Didn't work for him.

We;ll see about this attempt.

Mack, I still think Cano can succeed if the Mets are smart (not sure they are) and consider one thing:

Play him, to the extent possible, against just righties.

Career split: .313/.362/.522 vs righties.

.281/.332/.428 vs lefties.

Lop off 30 points from career average against righties, and he'd be at .283/.332/.492. I'd take that.

Cano needs a solid year to be tradeable to another team looking for a DH. Root for him.

What is he suppose to say?
He is a shell of himself... We are all hoping he a a avg MLB player... again Brody should be fired for this trade... Although when I think of the cheap Wilpons how could they ever approve that trade...

Hopefully in 2021 they are all gone

I would fire Brodie for firing the only Mets affiliated manager I saw since Gil Hodges to stress defense, fundamentals, and the running game and...win the only non-shared championship in Brooklyn Cyclones history with no players from the team's top 20 prospect list (until the playoffs), Edgardo Alfonso.

Eddie, when you also trade for a relief pitcher that had 57 saves you have to include a impact player like Kelenic and I think Diaz will bounce back & have a fine year.
