Blast From The Past - 2010 Projection at Shortstop

Shortstop:

Last year, the Mets had plenty of talented, prospect type, shortstops.

Next year most of them will be second basemen.

I have both Ruben Tejada and Reese Havens listed on the second base page of this report, so we’re looking for a few good men here.

AAA projection: - Alejandro Machado – Buffalo wouldn’t be complete without an aging Latin at short that doesn’t speak English. Machado was a recent signing

AA projection: - Jacob Eigsti - Jake bounced around for four Mets teams last season and he should settle into the B-Mets, especially if Havens plays second. There’s a good chance one of three utility second basemen (Russ Adams, Jonathan Malo, Hector Pellot) may play here also.

A+ projection: - Wilmer Flores – Flores will make the jump to Lucy even though some reports have him still being only seven years old.

A projection: - Ryan Mollica – Mollica shared the duties in K-Port with Gered Mochizuki and hit .287 in 115 at bats. I see him in Georgia come April.

Brooklyn projection: - Gered Mochizuki – Moch hit .270 in K-Port in 2009 and has earned the bump up.

K-Port projection: - Wilfredo Tovar – hit a combined .253 for the VSL and GCL Mets in 2009.

Robbie Shields: - Tommy John surgery cost Shields the end of the 2009 season and word is he won’t be ready until the 2010 all-star break.

Miquel Tejada: - This Tejada has so far been a bust stateside and may only survive until the new draft class comes to town.

Luis Nieves: - Hit .189 combined for Brooklyn, K-Port, and Lucy. Pick a low-team that needs a backup.

Many SS are called, few are chosen...and Wilmer is no longer a SS.

But he is a hitter, something the Mets didn't appreciated
