Tom Brennan - YOU GOTTA MAKE THESE PLAYOFFS

GET FOCUSED. GET IT DONE.

I have trouble focusing - my wife tells me that constantly.

So I will here - no pretty pictures to distract...just focus.

I honestly have not focused on the playoffs, as it still feels so early - I mean, just 42 games in (now 43, after Tuesday night's misery loss to the formerly awful O's).

Pinch yourself to remind yourself, however, that as of Tuesday at 11:39 AM, there remained just 18 games.

This is the stretch drive.

The Mets at that minute, subject to change after Tuesday's MLB games to come, were 2 games out of the Wild Card!

And 2.5 games out of being in the top 3 in the NL East!

Incredible, considering they lead all of baseball in hitting by 7 points, on base % by 13 points, and are 10th and rising in scoring, despite sub-par season-to-date hitting in the clutch.

The only category over the decades that I have seen the Mets offensively lead in has been POOR HITTING.

Not now - the Mets can HIT.

When do they go up against the likes of Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler in back to back games and come away with 21 runs and 30 hits.  The 1968 Mets would have had 2 runs and 9 hits.

So....sorry, boys, but it is non-negotiable.

I don't care if you've had obstacles.  Almost every team has.

Your starters mostly suck?  Put out a Help Wanted sign and find someone with the gumption to pitch well enough, at least, to qualify for the 1962 Mets.

Simply put:

YOU GOTTA MAKE THESE PLAYOFFS.

WITH THIS HITTING, YA JUST GOTTA.

How about a win streak, so we can avoid counting down Tragic Numbers?

This is what happens when you don't catch the ball and don't pitch. Good pitching and defense. can carry bad hitting but not vice versa. Some guy named Gil won a WS with that formula and another guy named Fonzie did it last year in Brooklyn. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the Brooklyn championship. How soon we forget.

John, this is 10% on the defense and offense, 90% on the pitching. You trade prospects, then look for (relatively) cheap filler with little excess, it can blow up in your face. This might be the 3ed straight year it is blowing up in their faces due to poverty pitching.
