Deesha Thosar NY Daily News: Superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor is exceeding Mets’ expectations. “Lindor noticed Davis wasn’t using his “good hands” in a way that would benefit his fielding at third base. The shortstop said Davis was “putting himself in bad positions where his hands weren’t allowing him to become a good infielder.” Davis accepted Lindor’s advice, and the team quickly began to see a difference in his defense. Lindor credited Davis for working hard and sticking with his practice because defensive drills can become monotonous and boring at times.”

SNY.TV: Mets' Marcus Stroman to start Tuesday's game vs. Astros. The game will be on SNY, beginning at 1 p.m. and first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m.

The Mets will be awarded the future Hall of Famer's signing rights in a lottery that includes the Phillies and Indians, who also were willing to match the Braves' terms.

At a photo session, Mets' outfielder Darryl Strawberry throws a punch at Keith Hernandez, the team's no-nonsense All-Star first baseman. The spring training scuffle started over comments about salaries and results with the Straw walking out of camp.

2005: Thirty-two years after his death, Jackie Robinson receives the Congressional Gold Medal in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, the highest honor Congress can bestow. The medal is accepted by Rachel Robinson, his widow. Baseball is represented in a way by former Texas Rangers executive George W. Bush. Robinson joins Roberto Clemente, Joe Louis and Jesse Owens as the only athletes among about 300 Gold Medal recipients. Following the ceremony, the Boston Red Sox are honored at the White House for winning the 2004 World Series.

2005: In the Washington Nationals' first game since moving from Montreal, pitcher Tony Armas, Jr. tosses two hitless innings and Jose Guillen hits a two-run home run as the Nationals post a 5 - 3 triumph over the Mets in the Grapefruit League opener for both teams. The Expos played their first regular-season game against the Mets in 1969 and their last game against the Mets on October 3, 2004. In the first regular-season game between these franchises, Tom Seaver started for the Mets at Shea Stadium and Coco Laboy powered the Expos to an 11 - 10 victory. In their last meeting, Tom Glavine started for the Mets at Shea Stadium and Todd Zeile hit a home run to deal the Expos an 8 - 1 defeat. Wearing their regular-season home uniforms instead of the traditional batting practice spring training jerseys, the Nationals defeat Glavine this time.

2006: Bret Boone retires at the New York Mets training camp, the culmination of a swift decline for a player who was one of baseball's best second basemen only a few years ago.

Tough seeing the Nunez is hitting 98 on the Giants. Who did the Rule 5 protection, was it Brodie or Alderson?

Concerning to hear that coach Lindor fixed Dacis’ hands. Where was coach Tuefel and coach DiSarcina that have worked with Davis “extensively” for so long? Wonder if this story isn’t feel good bullshit. Seems like every story so far has mentioned Lindor interacting with teammates positively.

Oh boy! I just switched over to MLBTR and saw the new allegations about Callaway. That guy is cooked. He was having an extra marital affair with a married woman and her husband contacted the Indians several times, and has tapes of those conversations. Then, he contacted the Mets after Alderson left. Wow.

Don’t really know why that’s illegal and he should be fired for it, unless he “used his power”... seems like people do this kind of thing and it’s between a husband and his wife... But the piling on is getting worse at The Athletic. They plan on exposing everything.

Gus. Callaway story gets crazier by the minute. And remember what Terry Francona said about Mickey when he was hired by the Mets? That he was a Rock Star? What did the Indians know and when did they know it? The Mets should raise hell about this. Indians will most likely be fined by MLB but the Mets should receive compensation as well. Send back Gimenez and we will call it square.

1) Nunez was under Sandy's watch.

2) Piling on? Can you be serious? Dick Pick Mick. That shit doesn't float in today's world. Guy is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to any organization he's affiliated with.

AND SANDY KNEW.

HE HAD TO KNOW.

I mean, you either think that Sandy was utterly clueless about his own manager, his own clubhouse, and had no idea about the "worst kept secret in baseball," or he looked the other way.

The way he looked the other way with Steroids with the A's.

What Sandy figured was "okay" is not "okay" anymore.

I think this story makes Sandy look very, very bad. His only defense is total ignorance. And once again, we have to question whether the Mets need to move forward with a 73-year-old guy who doesn't seem to have the faintest clue how the world operates these days. He doesn't "get it," as they say. He's like Gus, thinking it's okay, but that's not our world anymore.

Which is a good thing overall.

Meanwhile, old Sandy announces the Mets new vetting and hiring process . . . and goes out and hires Jeff Deline, yet another old establishment white guy. It's a joke.

At this point, it is clear to me that Sandy needs to gracefully "retire" at the end of the year -- or take on a consulting position -- because the world has passed him by. Just gently go away, head held high. Otherwise, I think things could get ugly for him.

I am not looking at it from Sandy’s point of view. I’m looking at two adults that according to the story had a consensual extra marital affair. The husband took it up with the Indians, rather than his wife. You think no other players have consensual affairs? Would your job fire you for that? Can they? This isn’t Mickey telling a reporter to lay with him for a story. This is two adults who both want to cheat on their spouses with each other, according to the story.
