Mack - More Draft News

3-2-21 - BA

UCLA righthander Nick Nastrini currently ranks No. 95 on the BA 200 but has come out with better fastball velocity (up to 95-96 mph) and is trending up because of that.

Mack’s spin -

Nastrini is another player that could fly up the charts if he has a great 2021 season.

3-2-21 - BA

Mira Costa High (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) righthander Thatcher Hurd ranks just ahead of Nastrini (No. 90) but is getting plenty of good feedback from scouts who have seen him early this season and could shoot up into the top 50 range.

Mack’s spin -

There’s been a lot of positive ink this season and he seems to be becoming a solid round two pick.

3-2-21 - BA

San Diego State righthander Troy Melton was a sleeper candidate prior to the season and was in the first group of players left off the BA 200. He's getting top-five round chatter and if that's legit he'll certainly rank inside the top 200 on our next update.

Mack’s spin -

Sitting at around the 200th pick.

3-1-21 - Prospect Live -

TY MADDEN, RHP, TEXAS - 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 11 K, 1 BB

After a solid, albeit unspectacular debut in week one against Mississippi State, Madden came back with vengeance this week and completely annihilated the Brigham Young lineup top-to-bottom. His eleven punch outs were a new career high. On the season, Madden now owns a 2.76 ERA over 11 innings. He’s got 16 strikeouts and 4 walks on the year.

Madden had it all cookin’ Friday night for the Longhorns and took a no-hitter into the 7th. The Cypress, Tex. native was up into the upper-90s all night, touching 97 on a few occasions. The heater was stiff with late hop from his signature high-release. The slider had more bite and depth on it than we’d seen from Madden to this point. He mixed in a few changeups for good measure.

Mack’s spin -

Madden remains the mock favorite at 1.10.

3-1-21 - Jeff Scholzen @utahscout1219

2021 MLB Draft Alert - Kyle Manzardo, 1B, L-R 6-1 205, JR (@wsucougarbsb/@KyleTMazardo) with 2 foul ball HR’s line to line, then smokes a 2B off the LCF wall. 3 balls smoked on 3-2 FB’s. 3 HR’s in 4 games

Mack’s spin -

I never get too excited at first basemen hitting home runs. I look to their K/9 stats and they are low, I make a mental note.

3-1-21 - Tyler Jennings @TylerJennings24

Kevin Parada (GT) - One of the best prep guys to reach campus this year. Mature approach at the plate, hit to all fields with good pop. Used opposite field to advantage Friday, went yard pull-side Saturday. Strong arm behind plate. Fun player.

Mack’s spin -

I have no previous ink on Parada.

3-1-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Carter Jensen is one of the top 3 or 4 prep catchers in the 2021 MLB Draft. He's a pretty good bet to go in the top 100 picks. It's a big bat and promising athleticism behind the plate. Good name to familiarize yourself with moving forward.

Mack’s spin -

One of my readers mentioned he was surprised at the amount of catchers I had in the first two rounds.

Well, this is another.

3-1-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Friday night was the best I have seen Ty Madden's slider in his Longhorn career. Total snapdragon

Mack’s spin -

Joe loves Ty.

3-1-21 - Lookout Landing -

There’s a lot to like in Kevin Abel’s secondary offerings. The potential for two plus pitches outside of the fastball is enough to entice a lot of teams in the top 100 picks. There’s a little bit of Kyle Davies in Abel, except Abel has a far-superior breaking ball. Davies, of course, gets the nod in polish and command.

The Oregon State hurler has a chance to flat-out perform his way into the first round this year. That said, I don’t think he makes his way out of the top two rounds of the draft; 72 picks. The stuff is probably just too good for Abel to have a rough 2021 campaign, especially with the Pac-12 being down in offensive talent. If Seattle wants the local boy to stay in town, pick no. 50 would be a pretty darn good value. The Mariners wouldn’t pick again until pick 85, and I feel by then he’ll be gone. Abel has a pretty high floor, but I wouldn’t call him a “safe” pick by any measure. There’s definitive upside here, and the local appeal never hurts either.

Mack’s spin -

I agree with what is said above. I think Abel will be either a low second or early third round pick.

Too much talent to pick first.

2-27-21 - Lehigh Baseball @LehighBaseball

Just a masterful pitching performance for Mason Black after he's relieved by Ryan Deom after six innings on 73 pitches without allowing a run or a hit with 11 strikeouts.

Have a game, @mason_black_

2-27-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

Gunnar Hoglund just a different animal this year. He's 93-94 in the first inning here with a stiff, tight slider 86-88. Operation is about as good as it gets in college baseball.

2-27-21 - top hs players -

Thatcher Hurd – A former catcher, Hurd moved to the mound relatively recently and displayed impressive athleticism and feel for pitching. Hurd mostly works with average stuff right now, but he could rise quickly if he shows more velocity this spring.

Mack’s spin -

Hurd is easily an early second round pick.

2-27-21 - maxi[rep -

Top baseball player in all 50 states

Kentucky

Daylen Lile | Trinity (Louisville)

As a sophomore, Lile earned all-state honors by the coaches association after batting .518 with 41 RBI, 17 doubles and three home runs.

Mack’s spin -

Lile is one of the top prep pitchers in this draft.

I have him as an early pick in the second round.

2-27-21 - news and sentinel -

West Virginia University commit and Parkersburg South senior first baseman Grant Hussey is more than ready to get back on the diamond for Patriot head coach Matt Emerick inside the spacious confines of Hank Greenburg Field.

For now, he’s just ready for practice to begin next month.

Hussey, who could play some corner outfield while with the Mountaineers, is known for his max barrel speed, impact momentum and exit velocity off the bat. Prep Baseball Report said he had a 99 mph bat exit velocity with a wood bat during a W.Va. preseason all-state showcase event.

Mack’s spin -

Like most first baseman, Hussey is a bat first talent with potential huge power potential.

I have him in the 3rd/4th round area.
