2-2-21 - Friday Night Starters:
Gavin Williams - ECU - 6.2-IP, 0-R, 13-K
Andrew Abbott - Virginia - 7-IP, 2-ER, 9-K
Ryan Cusick - Wake Forest - 5.1-IP, 5-ER, 4-K
Michael Kirian - Lousiville - 6-IP, 3-ER, 11-K
Doug Nikhazy - Ole Miss - 6-IP, 0-ER, 11-K
Christian Scott - Florida - 5-IP, 2-ER, 7-K
Tyler Ras - Alabama - 5-IP, 4-ER, 3-K
Cooper Stinson - Duke - 5.2-IP, 3-ER, 2-K
Will Bednar - 6-IP, 2-ER, 10-K
Wyatt Olds - Oklahoma - 4.2-IP, 7-ER, 6-K
Jack Leiter - Vanderbilt - 6-IP, ER, 12-K
Jaden Hill - LSU - 1.1-IP, 2-ER, 2-K
Tyler Thornton - Arizona State - 3.2-IP, 3-ER, 3-K
4-2-21 - Kendall Rogers @KendallRogers
LSUl RHP Jaden Hill looked really uncomfortable two or three pitches in a row, trainers came out and he’s leaving the game. I didn’t see any obvious arm pain or anything. After his practice throw, he kind of grimaced and walked to the back of the mound. Ugh.
Hill’s velocity certainly wasn’t down or anything. He was sitting 93-95 and up to 96 with his FB.
Mack’s spin -
This has been a tough year for the once top-5 pick.
Prayers go out for the MRI result
4-2-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB
Sal Frelick's bat speed is undeniable. The swing is short, compact and direct to the ball. Hard not to be confident this is going to play at the big league level
4-2-21 - Tyler Jennings @TylerJennings24
To set up the Morissette RBI, Frelick went opposite field with a fly ball down the line. Left fielder misplayed the ball and Frelick was already around second once it dropped. Love the short swing he has
Mack’s spin -
Everybody is on the Frelick train.
Right now, a definite first round pick.
4-2-21 - D1Baseball @d1baseball
The hottest pitcher in America might very well be Chris Burica of @CBUbaseball. @Cburica36 went the distance in a 3-0 shutout over UT Rio Grande Valley, and he has now given up just one run over his last 41 innings
Mack’s spin -
New name.
Burica is a junior lefty throwing up some great numbers against sub-par schools.
Do this against Vandy or Florida and then I’ll take you serious.

10. New York Mets: Marcelo Mayer, SS, Eastlake HS (CA)
Another prospect who doesn’t have any one skill better than the other, Marcelo Mayer does just about everything right. Much like many shortstops we’ve seen lately in the first round over the past five years, Mayer is a tall and lean player who isn’t a burner but has raw power. After trading away some of their top prospects, Mayer would inject some talent into the Mets’ farm system.
Mack’s spin -
It amazes me when someone says the Mets will use their first draft pick on a position where they just extended one of the top players on baseball… for 10 years.
SMH
4-1-21 - Danny Hacker @theGREATdanny94
That's now 24Ks in 10.0 IP for Thatcher Hurd in his last two starts. He is my #3 pitcher in the 2020 class, kid just oozes top of the rotation upside. His 3,000+ RPM CB is a major weapon. If I was a team in the top-5/10, I seriously would consider taking him or Josh Hartle
Mack’s spin -
Hacker’s top 3 pitcher stance seems a little aggressive.
I have him… currently… a late first round pick.
4-1-21 - Cayden Hatcher @C_Hatcher_PBR
2021 Carter Holton - Vanderbilt. 5-foot-11 185 lbs.
Holton works up tempo and goes right at hitters, CB/SL is a plus pitch w/ handful of swing/miss. 11 K’s through 4 IP.
FB: 91-93 T94 CB: 74-76 SL: 77-79 CH: 83-84
Mack’s spin -
I love a stone’s throw away from this school and I can tell you first hand that Holton is a quality pitcher; however, his lack of size would prevent me from drafting him in any rounds. That’s just me.
4-1-21 - PG College Baseball @PGCollegeBall
Luke Waddell (‘21 elig.) with a lead-off single here as he battles deep into a count before spraying it the other way. Mature approach that works well with his quick hands
Waddell goes big fly to RCF later in the action for a solo shot! Multiple tools on full display today.
Mack’s spin -
Waddell is the kind of player you hope is still on the board on Day 3 of the draft.
Projects to be a great minor league fill-in player.

The Miami Marlins went all pitchers in the 2020 MLB Draft and as of this writing, they’ve had good fortune keeping nearly every arm in the organization healthy. So if it’s a close call between several prospects at overall pick No. 16, they’ll probably prefer to take the top available hitter. IMG Academy outfielder James Wood could realistically still be on the board for them.
Wood has the tools and size to make a major impact at the MLB level. He’s also a great athlete that used to play basketball before committing to baseball full time. There aren’t many prospects in this draft class with the ceiling that Wood possesses. The Marlins would be getting a very projectable player with tremendous upside and a great value in the middle of the first round.
Mack’s spin -
Wood’s name should still be on the board when the Mets pick at 1.1 and part of me would be quite happy if his name was called out then.
3-30-21 - Shooter Hunt @ShooterHunt
‘21 SS Carson Williams (CA) certainly looks the part at short.
Easy plus arm strength w/ dynamic athleticism & advanced glove2hand.
Bounced around in pregame while putting a show from all angles
Mack’s spin -
Williams has the skills to be a factor in the upcoming draft.
He started the mock season around #200 but is getting close to breaking the #100 barrier.

Mack .. your comment about James Wood "Part of me would be quite happy if his name was called out then" . . . so my question . what part of you would not be happy? From what I have read, this looks like a good pick at 1.10.
Downsides?
Thanks . .
I don’t know... too many of these “great athletes” lately have missed or are always hurt. You tell me there aren’t ten players better than this kid? Great athletes have holes in their bats.
How good is the Del Castillo kid you like Mack?
Remember -
It's not that Wood would be a bad pick at 1.10...
It's just that there might be a BETTER one available.
ither of the catchers (Del Castillo or Davis) come to mind.
Gus -
The alternative is we could always draft someone labeled as a "shitty athlete".
del Castillo is the real deal both defensively and offensively.
He is currently hitting .315 for Miami (against top schools) with an .879-OPS.
I thought that might be your thinking .. there isn't much chance del Castillo will be available at #10, is there?
Give me a shitty athlete that puts up great numbers, and keep the great athlete that turns out to be Ivan Wilson or Courtney Lee. If the only thing a player has for himself is his good athletism, tell him to learn how to dunk.
If given a choice, I will always lean toward the superior athlete.
Speed is closely linked to defense.
Of course, that's just generally speaking. You draft an array of players. But I am definitely in favor of athleticism, something our draft & teams lacked under Sandy/
