MACK - Random Thoughts

The Mets released Syracuse outfielder, Jackie Bradley Jr.

I’ve always loved these veteran additions to fill the cracks at the AAA level. JBJ was hitting .400 for the Long Island Ducks when they signed him away. No, he never duplicated these kind of numbers for Syracuse, but he did deal up the same kind of Gold Glove defense he has done his entire career.

I got to know Jackie when he played college ball for the University of South Carolina. He had a hard time getting used to social media, as many of us have, but he is a true gentleman of the game. I wish him well.

Speaking of Syracuse, look for a cleaning house of the roster you now see listed on their website. However, one I hope they would sign for another season is outfielder, Jose Azocar.

Azocar has basically been a utility player all his career, known for his light bat, but don’t tell Syracuse that since they picked him up from San Diego.

In 51 at bats, the 28 year old hit .353 for the Mets, with a .911-OPS. He also is 5-11, which is like Shaq height for Mets outfielders. It really would help while the prospects down there get their act together.

I got a name you all have to memorize… Justin Lawson.

         Brooklyn Cyclones     @BKCyclones

A look back at Justin Lawson's phenomenal season in Brooklyn.    He finished the season tied for the SAL lead with 8 saves and from June 15th to the end of the season:

 19 appearances

 33.1 innings pitched / 3 earned runs

 0.81 ERA

1.05 WHIP

      Justin Rocke        @JustinRocke

𝐉𝐋𝐚𝐰 was a wizard in the bullpen all year long.

Justin Lawson became the first Cyclone to hold at least a share of the league lead in saves (8) since 2015 & posted a High-A best 0.81 ERA from June 15 until the end of the season (min. 30.0 IP).

The fact that such a small percentage of position player WAR has come from 30+ year olds in recent seasons probably doesn't bode well for the FA market

Fascinating graph study which only proves you should never offer someone over 30 a long range contract.

Mack,
Great International prospect report. As you have stated before, the International prospects signing can boost the Mets minors to compliment their MLB draft signings.

Mack, that’s an awesome graph!

So, according to MLB, the Mets signed International Prospect #2, and no one else in the top 50. Meaning, Peña used up their entire allotted budget and they had to sign other guys to nominal amounts. In the past, the Mets signed players ranked a little lower (Mauricio, Alvarez, et al) so they can get more prospects in that top 50. Which way is better? Not sure. Vlad Guerrero for the Blue Jays was a full budget player, they’re pretty happy. Jason Dominguez from the Yankees was a full budget player, they seem happy. Juan Soto was a lower ranked prospect… no complaints there from Washington. I guess it all depends on your scouting.

The ONLY international free agent right now I would be all over is Roki Sasaki.

Mack love it but has jLaw had TJS? On the Giants last night OMG Jones can't throw deep. Who is the best QB in next years draft? Back to Baseball those arrogant braves (I'm only going to use lower case from now on when writing their name) are holding Sale for Monday so I guess their thinking were going to lose the series to the Brew crew and they win against KC so we HAVE TO MAKE IT TO THE POST SEASON! 2022 was a horror show we can't have another!!!!!! Mack reassure me please.

Roki Sasaki is already tight with Ohtani so forget that. Like Mack said we need to sign Soto and one of Snell, Burnes or Fried. Steve wants to win and stealing Soto and Fried is the cherry on top.

1) Borrow crowbar 2) pry Soto away from Yankees. Azocar is a keeper. Lawson stays healthy and successful in AA and AAA, the 15th rounder could join the pen in Queens in perhaps 2026.

Avoid multi-year deals with old hitters. The proof is incontrovertible.

A certain Pete Alonso will be 30+ looking for a long term deal.

Watching the younger guys is usually more entertaining. They are simply more athletic and dynamic than their older counter parts and more hungry.

I would imagine that investing millions to best identify the right young players for draft or undervalued by teams is probably more valuable than sending it to Pete Alonso. Imagine how throwing 100 million at the most advanced scouting and tech you could imagine would actually save them long term.

Soto is so young I would get on board as he could still have a solid 7-8 years in him.

Gary, these players have pride and egos. I don’t think they all want to follow Ohtani. I’m not buying.

Glad to hear Mack that you have power and hope the storm wasn’t too bad of an experience. I understand some relatives in Greenville are talking about massive rainfalls.

TexasGusCC said...

You don’t think the Nationals are in play for Soto?

TexasGusCC said...

Soto will want 14-15 years. Like all players he wants to be paid for as long as possible, because hey, things happen. Are you in?
