Ken Oberkfell:

New Mets general manager Sandy Alderson plans to hire a new manager by the winter meetings and has added Ken Oberkfell to his list of candidates.

Having met with five candidates from within the organization to replace the fired Jerry Manuel, Alderson began speaking with outsiders Tuesday, beginning with Boston bench coach DeMarlo Hale.

Rangers hitting coach Clint Hurdle and new Toronto bench coach Don Wakamatsu are scheduled for Wednesday.

Oberkfell, the Mets Triple-A manager for the past six years, will be interviewed Thursday or Friday in the Dominican Republic, where he is managing in the winter league. One or two more candidates may be added.

Brian Daubach:

The Nationals have hired Brian Daubach to manage Class A Hagerstown and enlisted Matt LeCroy to skipper Class A Potomac, according to a baseball source.

This past season, Daubach was the Can-Am League Manager of the Year after guiding the Pittsfield Colonials to a 47-45 record. During the second half of the season, the team went 27-18.

Daubach is best known for his playing days as a first baseman with the Red Sox. His best year came in 1999, when he hit .294 with 21 home runs and 73 RBIs.

 Jeff Francoeur:

According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, Jeff Francoeur is expected to clear waivers and become a free agent by the end of this week. Francoeur told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this weekend that he is hoping to find a starting job for next season, but he'll have to sign with a pretty desperate club to find that. The 26-year-old outfielder batted just .249/.300/.383 with 13 homers and 65 RBI over 454 at-bats this past year.

Yusmeiro Petit:

Margarita Bravos (12-8) 3-4 - They dropped out of first place with a rough week of play. With Wilmer Flores injured they haven’t been getting good production at the shortstop position with Eider Torres (.203) or Alberto Gonzalez (.206). Flores was hitting .333 in his three games before he went down with a calf injury. Frank Diaz is their big RBI man with 13, though he was held without an RBI his last three games in a 1 for 13 stretch. The closest in RBI production to Frank is Henry Blanco with seven. Yusmeiro Petit has provided the Bravos rotation with a lift, giving them two solid starts. He is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA though he has given up three unearned runs.

Ron Hunt:

Trade: Sent to Los Angeles in Tommy Davis deal

After trade: 1,024 games played, .269/.378/.331 OPS+ 103

Analysis – Good trade for both clubs. Davis played well his one year with the Mets before they flipped him for Tommie Agee. Hunt learned how to get hit by a pitch on a regular basis and contributed eight years as an above-average second baseman after the trade.
