Transactions:
New York Mets traded Mardie Cornejo to the Detroit Tigers for Ed Glynn on March 13, 1979.

Detroit Tigers claimed Shane Halter of the New York Mets on waivers on March 13, 2000.

National Pastime.com:

1979

The Tigers and Mets swap relievers, with Detroit sending Ed Glynn to the Big Apple in exchange for Mardie Cornejo, who, after posting a 4-2 record as a rookie last season, will never play in another major league game. In contrast, the latest addition to the New York bullpen will make 84 appearances, compiling an ERA of 3.53 during the two years with his new club.

2001

Throwing 22 strikes out of 29 pitches over two innings of shutout ball in his surprise start against the Mets at Roger Dean Stadium, Rick Ankiel makes his first appearance since the 2000 playoffs, in which he lost his control, throwing seven wild pitches in three postseason appearances.

2006

Three pitches into the top of the seventh inning, the stadium lights at Tradition Field partially fail. With fifty percent of the lighting not functioning, the exhibition game ends, after a 15-minute delay, with the Mets leading the Nationals, 10-4.

Baseball Reference:

1969 - In addition to this year's lower mound and tightened strike zoneMajor League Baseball tries an experimental ball with 10% more resiliency for a spring training game between the Mets and Tigers in Lakeland, Florida. It has an all-rubber center instead of a cork and rubber core, and the seams are higher than the regular ball. Mets pitcher Don Cardwell surrenders three home runs in the 4th inning to Dick McAuliffeNorm Cash, and Gates Brown in the Tigers' 7 - 4 victory. Tomorrow, in Phoenix, Arizona, the same ball is used in the Giants' 13 - 1 win over the Angels, with Bobby Bonds hitting the only two homers off George Brunet. The players agree the ball is definitely livelier and sounds louder coming off the bat

2001 - At spring trainingSt. Louis Cardinals pitcher Rick Ankiel makes his first appearance since the 2000 playoffs in which he lost his control throwing seven wild pitches in three postseason appearances. Ankiel throws 22 strikes out of 29 pitches over two innings of shutout ball in his surprise start against the Mets, but his control problems will reappear within a short while.

Hey, how come Pete Crow didn't play? It feels a little less like ST when he's not in games.

Lucchesi had an excellent outing - shows me 2020 is long behind him.

Luis G looked like Brooks R on that DP.

Brandon Nimmo, I feel, is going to have a terrific season. A little tweak to his batting stance and he is firing on all cylinders.

If they are looking to monitor Smith's workload due to stress re-fracture concerns, I'd be surprised to see him start more than 130-140 games this year.

Betances may not have been in mid-season form - but he was better. For March 12, I'll take it.

The conversation about an emphasis defense for Marcus makes a lot of sense to me.

Pillar was very impressive in his response. Lucchesi less so. But again, I am so impressed by the way these players are articulate and thoughtful and appealing in their responses. This is a strong roster of bright, thoughtful young men.

I'm wondering if Gsellman should make this team. Too soon to say.

Very intrigued by the new MLB Top 30 prospect list for the Mets, and didn’t have any problem with it. It was comical to see Adrian Hernandez hanging on with spot #30. That guy needs to get back on the map or that $1.5MM he got to sign is all he will get. I’d like to see him in the teens next year. Where is McIntosh? Where’s Mangum? Mazeika?

Gilliam? I thought this guy was ready for I the majors right out of college?

Texas Gus, yes, that was a fine prospect article. I do need to look at MLB Mets Top 30. Again, I know the bring up Crow a lot, but think of all the Mets minors OF, (Brody, Mangum, Lindsay, Hernandez, etc.) who didn’t play, but Crow did.

Jimmy, if I had to pick between Joey and the Giz right now, I would have to go with Lucchesi. And yes, they are articulate. Very impressive.
