McNeil and Lindor 3 for 35. Both may be designated for assignment. Happy Daylight Savings time!
With every rising of the morning sun, Luis Guillorme becomes more indispensable to the Mets.
I criticized the Villar signing from the get-go.
For many reasons.
But one of them was the insane notion that he might be able to help out at 3B.
As we know:
1) Villar is not a good fielder;
2) Villar has not played 3B since 2016;
3) And in his entire career, he's played 3B a total of 38 games. Eight times in 2015, 30 in 2016. Then zero.
So after two errors last night, Rojas as to go on and talk about Villar's "adjustment" and how it will take time, etc.
Making it a PLAN that this guy could handle 3B is ridiculous, especially when someone like Marwin Gonzalez was available at the same time -- who could also give you time in the outfield in necessary.
Villar is a middle infielder with a bad attitude. That's it. Well, on a good year, he might be able to hit -- and he definitely can run.
Third base is JD Davis and Luis Guillorme. That works for me.
Let's stop pretending that Villar can be of help over there. If this guy takes opportunities away from Guillorme or Davis I will be sickened.
Jimmy
Watching the Tatis highlights is amazing. First thing that comes to mind is Lindor said he wants to be paid like the best SS in baseball. Well, I don’t know... The second is that the White Sox traded Tatis for James Shields. Ouch.
Gus - If Lindor demands a Tatis deal. I saw let him prove it this year. There will be lots of SS options next Winter. I am still skeptical of this trade. I would have kept Gimenez at SS and spent money elsewhere. Maybe on Marwin Gonzalez as Jimmy suggets.
I confess to being very much in favor of this trade and do not regret it, yet. I don’t believe in Gimenez’s long term offensive production ans Lindor is great. I was thinking last night that the Tatis deal is the worst thing that could happen to the Mets.
Boy, one brilliant 1st round pick (11th overall) is Toronto's Alek Manoah. Because of 2020 cancellation, hardly any minor league career innings, all in 2019. Including today, this spring, 5 innings, 1 hit, no runs, 11 Ks. He sounds like an ace to me.
A 5-inning "Ace"? Jumping the gun a bit, Tom? Do we even know which batters he faced in those innings?
Bill, he faced a few Yankee regulars today, and Manoah retired all 9, 7 by K.
