Herd Game Notes

TODAY’S GAME: This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Gwinnett Braves for the third game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (1:05 p.m.). The series is tied 1-1 after the Bisons won 4-3 on Tuesday night and the Braves came back yesterday with a 9-1 victory. The Herd is currently 3-3 on their eight-game homestand that began with a four-game split with Norfolk. After Friday, the Bisons will travel to Pawtucket for a four-game series.

THE REY TO GO: INF Argenis Reyes continues to show himself as a good all-around player. Reyes drew two walks last night to give him a team-high 14 on the year. He leads the Bisons in average (.296) while his .412 on-base percentage is 10th in the International League. He’s also tied for the team lead in steals (5) and is the top fielding second baseman in the IL (.991 pct.).

ANGELS IN THE OUTFIELD: OF Angel Pagan has picked up an outfield assist in each of his first two games with the Bisons. Pagan threw out a runner trying to score in the ninth inning on Tuesday night and got former Bison Brian Barton trying to stretch a single into a double last night. Herd outfielders now have eight outfield assists on the season.

ON THE SNYD: RHP Kyle Snyder will make his third consecutive start today after beginning the year with six relief appearances. Snyder struck out a season-high six in four innings on Saturday against Norfolk.

ROSTER MOVES: C Javier Valentin joins the Bisons today. The catcher has spent each of the past six seasons in the major leagues, five of which came in Cincinnati. Last year with the Reds, Valentin hit .256 (33-129) with four home runs and 18RBI in 94 games. Bisons C Rafael Arroyo has been transferred to St. Lucie (A). Just prior to yesterday’s game, C Rene Rivera was transferred back on the Bisons roster from Brooklyn (A).

MORE MOVES: The Mets have selected the contract of RHP Nelson Figueroa. Figueroa’s 2.57ERA through five starts with the Bisons ranked him 10th in the International League. The Mets announced yesterday that LHP Jonathon Niese will return to Buffalo after a two-game stint in New York. The southpaw posted a 5.91ERA in two starts with the Mets (10.2IP, 7R, 10K).
