CUTNPASTE: - Jerry Manuel, Angel Pagan, Jacoby Ellsbury, Keep The Faith... and Albert Cordero

Jerry Manuel:

nydn  - The Mets have essentially decided not to retain Jerry Manuel after this season, but are still debating Omar Minaya's role and employment status, according to people familiar with the team's thinking. The overwhelming likelihood is that Manuel will be issued what amounts to an honorable discharge. The Mets do not expect to offer him another contract, but they like and respect Manuel, and spared him a firing over the past two years. Still, after consecutive ugly seasons, the team feels ready to move on - although no decisions will be made official until the end of the season.

Angel Pagan:

bleacher  - Angel Pagan is 18th in major league baseball in overall WAR, but he is second in baseball in defensive WAR. For whatever that is worth. I personally think the New York Mets made a huge error with Pagan in 2010. With Carlos Beltran out with an injury in the first half of the season, Angel Pagan became the starting center fielder, and emerged as one of the elite defenders in the National League. On July 15th, when Beltran returned, the Mets were 48-40, and four games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. When Beltran returned, they put him back in center field and started moving Pagan variously to left field and right field

Jacoby Ellsbury:

bleacher  - The New York Mets are targeting Boston's Jacoby Ellsbury and may seek to acquire the speedy outfielder this winter, according to the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo and multiple sources within the Mets organization. This information fascinates from several angles. That the Mets consider themselves potential buyers of rising, affordable talent, that the Red Sox might actually be positioned to consider dealing their homegrown speedster, and that these two teams might match up perfectly in consummating such a deal, are all intriguing aspects of this particular rumor

Keep The Faith:

remcloser  - For my younger Mets fans I would say as Bon Jovi once beautifully said "Keep The Faith". However if you're a New Yorker as I am in my mind and in my heart this is not an easy process. Seriously you can probably kiss 2011 and 2012 goodbye right now as this team needs to be rebuild from the ground up. I truly believe that trading Reyes and or Wright is not the the answer because their best years are still ahead of them but with that said, major changes are going to have to take place and if that means to trade away top players for prospects and develop markets like Cuba, Korea, Japan, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican then maybe pulling the plug on Omar may not be the right thing to do. Like it or not, the Latin players are the immediate future for the game of baseball. 10 years from now it will be China and whoever gets there first will reek the benefits. Can anyone guess why the Yankees are already getting so involved there? Let's face the facts, the bottom line is the ownership, the Wilpon's, must go. If not, I know for sure that I'll never see a championship flag fly over Citi Field.

Albert Cordero:

9-20 from: - link  - A relative unknown coming into the season, Cordero put himself on the map with a very strong batting line from a teenaged catching prospect. In some ways this was the kind of line many had hoped we'd see from Francisco Pena in the last couple years. But despite the lack of pedigree, Cordero is nearly as interesting considering he'd always shown a strong bat in his seasons with the Mets VSL team and according to DiFelice, exhibits a lot of potential to stay behind the plate at the highest levels. Currently he isn't a gold glover back there by any means though so he's going to have to prove it at each level with more of the same offensive firepower but as I've said with him before, it's never a good idea to disregard teenaged catchers with this kind of power.
