PRESS RELEASE: - Tri-City 5, Brooklyn 1

The Brooklyn Cyclones lost by a score of 5-1 on Wednesday night and were swept in the NYPL Championship series, losing two games to none to the Tri-City Valley Cats.

The Cyclones managed just five hits on Wednesday, with Darrell Ceciliani notching three by himself. Cory Vaughn and J.B Brown accounted for the only other two hits by Brooklyn batters. Ceciliani  hit .474 in the postseason, and Joe Bonfe hit .333 to pace the Cyclones offense.

Starting pitcher Yohan Almonte allowed three runs -- one earned -- on seven hits in 4.2 innings. Angel Cuan came on in relief of Almonte, and allowed two more runs in 2.1 innings. Wes Wrenn held the Valley Cats scoreless over the final 2.0 innings, but Brooklyn could not mount a comeback.

"We had an outstanding season," said Wally Backman, "that ended just two games too soon. Every one of my players should hold their heads high, and be proud of what they accomplished. Every championship series has to have a loser, and it's just unfortunate that this time around, it was us."
