Q&A Weekends: - Mets Most Talented Position

Bill M. asked:  -  Mack, in your opinon, which position do the Mets have the most prospect talent?

Well, there's a bunch of them right now, but hands down it's third base... which figures, since it's also the one position the Mets don't have to worry about for the next five years.

The current top prospect is Zach Lutz, who will play AAA next spiring. Lutz was in and out of the lineup this past season, with ticky-tacky injuries, yet he still managed to hit 19 home runs and knock in 55-RBI in 268-ABs for four teams. His combined stats were: .287/.380/.571/.951.

After that, you have four players (Brian Harrison, Jenry Marte, Aderlin Rodriquez, Joe Bonfe) that all have shown the ability to start at either St. Lucie or Savannah, but there are only two available slots.

Harrison hit .286, 7-HR for Brooklyn... high-ceiling Marte played the last two years in Savannah... the 19-year old A-Rod, who has the highest ceiling,  hit .312, 13-HR for Kingsport... and Bonfe has hit above .320 for the past two seasons.

I don't see any of these being conversted to either shortstop or second base, so it will be interesting to see what devlops over the next two seasons.

None are ready to play Binghamton next spring.

Obviously, the Mets plan on using a couple of these guys as a DH, but due to Wright's future as a Met, there doesn't seem to be much future for anyone over the age of 21 at this position.
