Mets Promote Bisons Manager Ken Oberkfell to Bench Coach on Terry Collins Coaching Staff

The New York Mets today announced that Bisons manager KEN OBERKFELL has been promoted to the position of bench coach on the team’s major league coaching staff. Oberkfell will serve under new Mets skipper and Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer, Terry Collins.

A new manager for the Buffalo Bisons will be announced at a later date.

Oberkfell was the 15th manager in the Bisons modern era and was 132-155 in two seasons on the bench in Buffalo. In 2010, Oberkfell’s Bisons improved by 20 wins over the previous season, finishing with a 76-68 mark. Last year’s club won 40 games at Coca-Cola Field and finished with the 3rd best offense in the International League (.273 team average).

Oberkfell has served as the Mets Triple-A manager in each of the past six seasons, including time in Norfolk (2005-2006) and New Orleans (2007-2008). He was the first base coach for the International League All-Star team in 2009 and won a Dominican Winter League Championship and a Caribbean Series championship last off-season.

A 1982 World Series Champion as a player with St. Louis, Oberkfell played 16 major league seasons with the Cardinals, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Houston and California.
