Mack Report: - Teddy Dziuba, X-Man on Ollie, Emary Frederick, and El Toro

Mack Report - December 13, 2010

-I’m thrilled to announce that ex-New York Met Teddy Dziuba, is back as a writer here on Mack’s Mets. Zoo-bah has written some great stuff here and gives us a player’s perspective. He loves to answer questions about the sport of baseball, so fire away to macksmets@gmail.com  .

-Mack’s Mets’ beat reporter David Rubin will be attending spring training this year and will feature a daily report here at the end of each day. I’m not sure how long he will be there, but it will be longer than I am this year. This will be the first year I will miss ST since 2007.

-David is also in contact with the Mets and, hopefully, will be added to the blog gaggle (new word: blaggle) for upcoming conference calls by Mr. Alderson.

The “X-Man” (XMLBScout.com) checked in with his thoughts on Oliver Perez and Pedro Beato:

"Many folks have given up on Oliver Perez, but if you have followed his career since he was signed out of Mexico, when he actually had a pitching coach who could communicate on the same level and his, he was outstanding time in and time out. Since then, he's had a poor career with his delivery all out of whack. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he has a good arm. If someone like a Duncan or Claude Osteen could work with this kid, you might get someone who could win you 16 games. He at one time had a 94 mph fb with late away action vs RHH and a hard knee buckling curveball that broke into a RHH. But again, why hasn't he showed that with the Mets? If you look at their pitching coaches over the years, you might understand why. Communicate, communicate, communicate, because all players are different!

Beato is going to be a beast, if they leave him in the bullpen. Eventually he'll develop a 3rd pitch, but how many does Mariano Rivera have? - Later!"

I don’t disagree on much that the X-man says, but I do this time. First, I’ve had multiple one-on-one conversations with Ollie and he’s very intelligent. But secondly, I’m sort of out of excuses for him on the mound. And I really don’t care if he does well somewhere else. I just want his Mets days to be over and I’m sick of writing about him.

Ex-Met Emary Frederick had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates around Thanksgiving and is awaiting word from the team. Expect him to go back to school to finish up his pharmaceutical degree if that doesn’t work out.

OF Brahiam Maldonado was resigned by the Mets. He probably will wind up in Buffalo. Saw him hit a home run on opening day in Savannah which might still be rising...
