Just what you need… more paper on second base.
This one is simple. Lots of numbers and little blah-blah. Here’s various stats on all the possibilities. I used their last two years at the AA level or above:
OPS ISOP BABIP wOBA SLG % OBP
Daniel Murphy:
2009 MLB: .738 .161 .288 .313 .427 .311
2010 AAA: .785 .177 .290 .337 .471 .314
Luis Castillo:
2009 MLB: .721 .044 .342 .324 .346 .375
2010 MLB: .591 .032 .261 .275 .267 .324
Justin Turner:
2009 AAA: .744 .085 .328 .332 .385 .359
2010 AAA: .902 .183 .354 .389 .516 .386
Ruben Tejada:
2010 AAA: .664 .064 .331 .289 .344 .320
2010 MLB: .580 .069 .254 .260 .282 .298
Josh Satin:
2010 AA: .867 .164 .389 .381 .472 .395
Brad Emaus:
2010 AA: .836 .162 .286 .366 .434 .402
2010 AAA: .888 .197 .329 .384 .495 .393
Russ Adams:
2009 AAA: .687 .089 .297 .308 .356 .331
2010 AAA: .804 .209 .284 .340 .473 .331
Reese Havens:
2010 AA: 1.062 .324 .362 .445 .662 .400
Don’t get too excited about Havens yet. He spent most of the 2010 season on the DL. Emaus and Turner look like the insiders for utility and I was surprised how middle of the road Murph’s numbers have been.
Your call.
