I May Be Wrong, But…
1. Buffalo pitcher Mike O’Connor has cleared waivers and has now become a minor league free agent. Mike was another of those Montreal Expo connections that managed to get in nine appearances this year for the Mets: 0-1, 2.70, 1.20, 8-K, 6.2-IP. For some reason that earned him a demotion back to Buffalo, where he faltered: 5-5, 5.31, 1.47, 57.2-IP, 61-K. I thought he would have fit in well in the Queens pen, but we wish him well in his pursuit of a team that will let him return to the majors.
2. Why did I not find it a surprise that the Mets ownership and media department said that the players would be fined if they wore NYPD or FDNY hats on 9-11. League sleague… any decent NY team would pay the fines for the players. You can bring in new players and even hire a new General Manager, but as long as the team and it’s dinosaur organization keeps coming up with this shit, they will never be the top team in New York
3. BA printed the minor league players that have had 100 steals in one year, and the Mets were surprisingly well represented:
SB Player, Team (League) Org. Year
145 Vince Coleman, Macon (South Atlantic) Cardinals 1983
144 Donell Nixon, Bakersfield (California) Mariners 1983
124 James Johnston, San Francisco (Pacific Coast) none 1913
123 Jeff Stone, Spartanburg (South Atlantic) Phillies 1981
120 Alan Wiggins, Lodi (California) Dodgers 1980
116 Allan Lewis, Leesburg (Florida State) Athletics 1966
111 Ovid Nicholson, Frankfort (Blue Grass) none 1912
111 Marcus Lawton, Columbia (South Atlantic) Mets 1985
111 Chris Morris, Peoria (Midwest) Cardinals 2001
110 Maynard DeWitt, Zanesville (Ohio State) Dodgers 1946
109 Esix Snead, Potomac (Carolina) Cardinals 2000
107 Lyle Judy, Springfield (Western Association) Cardinals 1935
107 Otis Nixon, Columbus (International)/Nashville (Southern Assoc.) Yankees 1982
105 Bill Zimmerman, Utica (New York State) none 1910
105 Lenny Dykstra, Lynchburg (Carolina) Mets 1983
Boy… forgot about Lawton.
4. I can’t seem to understand the reason why Jose Reyes would tell the world that his hammy still hurts and he doesn’t want to run full speed and blow it out. His agent must be having a cow right now. Thi is probably good news for the Mets and may chase away anyone that would have offered more than a four year deal. We’ll see.
5. I think 2013 would be a great time to go out and buy an outfielder. Here’s some that will be available:
Melky Cabrera (2.1 WAR, $1.25 million, Arb 4 in 2012)
B.J. Upton (6.3 WAR, $4.825 million, Arb 3 in 2012)
Marlon Byrd (5.4 WAR, $5.5 million, $6.5 in 2012)
Michael Bourn (10 WAR, $4.4 million, Arb 4 in 2012)
Matt Kemp (7.6 WAR, $7.1 million, Arb 3 in 2012)
Shane Victorino (9.7 WAR, $7.5 million, $9.5 in 2012)

Hey Mack, can you please write a piece on how Sandy should stay put this year, and wait till the 2014 Free Agency Class? I would really appreciate it!

Let's face it, they won't be competitive next year either.
But after next year, Matt Kemp, Josh Hamilton, Andre Ethier, Curtis Granderson, Shane Victorino, Miguel Montero, Michael Bourn, Matt Cain, Zack Greinke, Cole Hamels, Jake Peavy, etc. become free agents
deal
awesome
