Lexington 7, Savannah 3

The Lexington Legends took the lead by scoring two runs in the fifth inning

on four walks and a passed ball, and went on to a 7-3 win over the Savannah

Sand Gnats Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Savannah moved out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. With one

out, Juan Torres reached first on an error by second baseman Delino

DeShields Jr. After Cam Maron was called out on strikes for the second out,

Luis Nieves walked. A wild pitch by Legends' starter Luis Cruz moved the

runners to second and third, and both scored when Juan Gamboa tripled to

center field.

The Legends got on the board in the fourth on a single by Emilio King, a

double by Domingo Santana and a sacrifice fly by Telvin Nash.

Savannah starter Erik Goeddel did not walk a batter in the first four

innings, but with one out in the fifth, Roberto Pena drew a base on balls.

Bryce Lane flied out, but Goeddel walked DeShields, King and Santana to

force in the tying run. After Brandon Sage relieved Goeddel, a passed ball

charged to catcher Albert Cordero allowed DeShields to score, giving the

Legends a 3-2 advantage.

The Legends added a run in the sixth on a triple by Ben Orloff and a single

by Lane, and scored three more in seventh. King led off with a single, but

was forced out at second on Santana's grounder. Ryan Fraser replaced Sage,

and threw a wild pitch that allowed Santana to go to second. Nash was

called out on strikes, but Mike Kvasnicka reached first safely on an error

by Nieves at second base as Santana advanced to third. After Ben Heath

walked to load the bases, Orloff lined a single to right field, scoring

Santana and Kvasnicka, and when the ball got by right fielder Rafael

Fernandez, Heath came home, giving the Legends a 7-2 lead.

Savannah's Dustin Lawler lined a leadoff homer into the left field bleachers

in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Cruz (5-4) worked the first six innings and got the win. Goeddel (3-5) was

the losing pitcher.
