Great teams have depth like this at each position.

We’re assuming that the injury to Davis will heal. If that happens, I believe he easily projects as a 25/75 player for the next five seasons. Probably 30/85.

It is conceivable that Evans, Duda, and Murphy will all be on the 2012 Mets in various outfield/utility roles. This is quite the first base depth, which could continue in some form for three to four years.

Having three minor leaguers that have combined for 56 home runs in 2011 is another good thing, though Pascucci’s future is probably owning a pizzeria in Japan. Dykstra has actually started to show signs why he was drafted before Davis was and, but, wouldn’t that be a great problem to have in 2013 than two killer first basemen (going into the talent-laden free agent market).

Don’t worry about Honeck, Frenzel, and the rest of the kids at the lower levels. Welsh doesn’t even stand a chance to play in Queens.

Wild Card:  I have SS Wilmer Flores playing first base for St. Lucie in 2012. It probably won't happen; however, he has to go somewhere other than shortstop if he's ever gong to play in Queens. A corner outield position is not an option for Wilmer. He simply is too slow. I don't project him as a future major league Met regardless of what position he winds up. I just don't.

Projection: Davis will play Queens through his arbitration-4 year of 2016… Dykstra will be traded post-2012 for an outfielder… Welsh will settle into Buffalo as the emergency man.

Probable Cuts or Players Lost:  Pascucci, Weijgertse

Projected Starters:   AAA:  Dykstra... AA: Welsh... A+: Wilmer Flores... A:  Frenzel

Rating: A
