Baseball: - Charlie Lea, Wilson Ramos, Theo on BoSox, Union Draft Issues Update, 1903 WS Program

Charlie Lea, who was the first French-born pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the major leagues, has died. He was 54. Collierville Police Lt. Doug Marshall confirmed Friday night that Lea was found dead at his home by his wife at about 4:30 p.m. The cause of death was not immediately known. Born in Orleans, France, Lea pitched from 1980 until 1988. He spent six seasons with the Montreal Expos and one season with the Minnesota Twins. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7223090/former-mlb-pitcher-charlie-lea-dies-tenn-54

Venezuelan police commandos rescued Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos and arrested three of his abductors on Friday, two days after he was kidnapped. Ramos said he was happy and thankful to be alive, and that the final moments had been hair-raising as police and the kidnappers exchanged heavy fire in the remote mountainous area of Montalban in central Carabobo state where he was being held. 'I was always praying to God, and thanks to God he gave me the miracle of sending me these wonderful people,' Ramos said. 'I'm alive thanks to them.'   http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2060623/Wilson-Ramos-Major-League-Baseball-player-kidnapped-Venezuela.html#ixzz1dVfxteTh

"How do you describe a death spiral?" he said. "We knew we had issues going into September (even though) we were on pace for 100 wins. We just couldn't stop bleeding. A lot of things happened at the same time. We lost a few key guys to injury, a few guys had a significant downturn in their performance, and all of a sudden we looked up and we didn't have enough pitching." http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/7228317/ex-gm-theo-epstein-says-boston-red-sox-drinking-widespread

Players and owners are in near-agreement on draft-related issues, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations. A deal is possible Sunday or Monday, the source said, but other significant issues remain, making it possible that the negotiations will stretch into the latter part of the week. The two sides are motivated to reach an agreement before then, however. The general managers’ meetings start Tuesday in Milwaukee, and the owners meet Thursday. The union, meanwhile, is holding meetings for player agents Monday through Wednesday.  http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/mlb-players-owners-clear-contract-hurdle-111311

A program from the first World Series game has sold at auction for $241,500. Hunt Auctions says the program was sold Saturday at the Louisville Slugger Museum. Company President David Hunt said there was enormous demand for the rare 1903 program from the series between the Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates, which Boston won. He said he was "aware of only one other copy of this 1903 World Series program, and that copy resides in the Baseball Hall of Fame."  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/baseball/mlb/11/13/1903.series.program.ap/index.html#ixzz1ddlWHBGr
