6 of 15 players on this list were 2011 draftees. Obviously the Mets graduated a few prospects to the Majors in 2011 (Dillon Gee, Lucas Duda, and Pedro Beato) but for almost 50% of the top 15 to come from the most recent draft speaks to the real lack of impact talent this system has produced. That could be because entering 2011 the Mets had spent the 2nd lowest amount on the draft in the last 5 years. Hopefully 2011 signals a shift in organizational philosophy regarding spending on higher quality, projectable impact potential amateur talent.

In response to your claim that "for almost 50% of the top 15 to come from the most recent draft speaks to the real lack of impact talent this system has produced", I have to point out that it equally speaks to the writer's inexcusable omission of Jordany Valdespin, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Reese Havens (top ten on any lists that are well researched) and players such as Cory Vaughn, Matt den Dekker, Jefry Marte, Zach Lutz and Aderlin Rodriguez if you want to stretch just a bit to fringe-top 10 guys.
And taking high upside but relatively unknown players like Fulmer and Tapia so seriously is nice but if you're going to do that, why not Juan Urbina or Akeel Morris?
I'm also a Greg Peavey and Alan Dykstra fan, for what it's worth.
Oh and if you're going to emphasize the 2011 draft, where is Philip Evans?
Bottom line was this is not a well-researched list with emphasis and optimism on the 2011 draft but with glaring, inexcusable omissions. Don't take this list too seriously. Consult Mack's Keepers if you want a really solid list of our prospects or, if you must, Toby Hyde's top-40. Baseball America's Top-10 isn't bad either but it's also a conservative list. I like John Sickels' for minorleagueball as well but I don't think that list is out yet.
