11-15-11: - http://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=6369 - Cal Becker (2012 RHP, Marlins Scout Team)- Becker was an unknown commodity on the national level as he entered the summer following his junior season at Redwood High School. Having been a football and rugby player early in his high school career, Becker didn't begin to focus on pitching until 2011. Becker made a name for himself by throwing 91 mph at the Area Code Games in August. With that performance in the back of the minds of scouts, the righty got extended looks in his two appearances for the Marlins Scout Team in Jupiter. He showed very good stuff in spite of giving up four hits over 2 1/3 innings. Becker's fastball sat 90-93 with good life and tailing action, throwing it for a strike 64.7% of the time. He supplemented it with a plus slider at 81-84 with late break and some depth to it. Becker also mixed in an occasional mid-70s curveball with solid 11-5 break. Becker uses his strong lower half well in his delivery, with good balance and direction towards the plate. In a short time Becker has become an interesting pitching prospect and if he can add polish to his repertoire he has a chance to develop into a high level pitcher. 11-22-11: - http://espn.go.com/blog/high-school/baseball/post/_/id/814/lucas-giolito-leads-loaded-cali-senior-class - Here’s a look at the Top 10 California high school prospects in the Class of 2012. 5. Hunter Virant, LHP, Camarillo (Camarillo, Calif.) Virant, like Williams and Avis ahead of him, has the capability to soar to at least No. 2 on this list with a strong spring. He offers projection at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds and already boasts a solid to average fastball that has brushed 94 mph in the past. His arm action is somewhat short, but there's plenty of time to figure that out and it's not expected to negatively impact his draft status. The left-hander's mid-70s curveball and potential for added velocity suggest he's among the prep arms with the most upside in any state.

Rio Ruiz, 3B, Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) Ruiz is a two-sport star at Bishop Amat, where he’s a standout quarterback in the fall and an elite baseball talent in the spring. He handles multiple gigs on the diamond, including on the mound, where he’s touched 93 miles per hour. He runs well (7.1 in the 60), stands 6-foot-2 and about 200 pounds and offers left-handed power. He has good hands and may stick at third if he doesn’t outgrow the position. But if he can’t stick at third, he has good instincts and could transition to right field without any issues.
11-26-11: - http://mlbdraftguide.com/1 - Impressive showings over the summer and fall have placed Courtney Hawkins near the top of 2012 MLB Draft prospect rankings. Hawkins, a prep outfielder from Texas, shows true 5 tool ability. Hawkins has shown tremendous power and the ability to drive the ball to all fields. He has very good bat speed and the ball really jumps off his bat. Hawkins also shows good patience. He is still somewhat raw and has a tendency to lunge at the plate. He has shown great improvement over the last year, however. Hawkins has the ability to cover alot of ground in the outfield (6.62-60). He has a plus arm, with throws from the outfield recorded at 91. Projections generally have Hawkins pegged as a future rightfielder. If Hawkins puts it all together, he has the tools to be one of the top players to come out of the 2012 draft.
