Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Blue Jays have joined the Red Sox, Padres and Rockies in pursuit of Mets left-hander Jon Niese. Niese isn't at the level of Mark Buehrle, C.J. Wilson, Roy Oswalt or possible trade target Gio Gonzalez, but, when the smoke clears, teams that missed out on the bigger names might view Niese or Wandy Rodriguez as a nice consolation prize. The 25-year-old left-hander posted a 4.40 ERA and 138/44 K/BB ratio over 157 1/3 innings this past season - http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/mlb/346504/baseball-headlines?r=1
So, what’s out there for the Mets to target:
· Toronto – a trade for Niese would never produce someone like C Travis D’Arnaud, but the Mets might be able to get either outfielders Jake Marisnick or Anthony Gose
· Boston – 3B Will Middlebook could be the perfect replacement when David signs with the Marlins (sic) or C Blake Swihart might be able to be pried away, especially after the promotion of Ryan Lavarnway
· San Diego – would love OF Rymer Liriano. Other than him, I don’t see much here other than a pitcher for pitcher swap.
· Colorado – No, sorry, no 3B Nolan Arenado in a deal for Jon, but it could be C Wiln Rosario or OF Tim Wheeler.

Marisnick would be a great get for the Mets.
