Baseball America reported it incorrectly confusing it with a shortstop the Mets signed yesterday.
Then, MetsBlog, understandably posted the news, thinking that BA is a good source.
It was a mistake, one that we all make once in awhile trying to get the info out to readers as quick as we can.
