I May Be Wrong, But… Hanley Ramirez, Minor Signings, LAD Owner, Scott Hairston

· This Hanley Ramirez/shortstop/Jose Reyes/third base drama is just not going away, folks.
People I have talked to say that Ramirez is a very self-centered, strong-willed person who isn’t the kind of player to move aside for another superstar, even if it is his blood brother.

Bill Parcells said it best at a dinner he spoke at that I attended back in the day. “People don’t change.”
Ramirez may agree to being moved to third, and things may start off well in the spring, but wait and see once this team goes into the tank at some point in the season.
This drama has only begun.

· The Mets signed two more players, RHRP Jeff Stevens, and 2B-OF Cory Wimberly.
According to MetsBlog:
Stevens, 28, appeared in four games for the Cubs in 2011, pitching to a 5.14 ERA in seven innings. He’s 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA in 37 1/3 innings over three big league seasons with the Cubs. He’s 28-23 with a 3.54 ERA in 248 games and 29 starts over seven minor league seasons.
Wimberly, 28, hit .238 with a .288 on-base percentage with 11 RBI and 15 stolen bases over 58 games for Triple-A Indianapolis in the Pirates organization in 2011. In seven minor league seasons, Wimberly has hit .297 with a .367 on-base percentage, ten home runs and 102 RBI with 199 walks and 281 strikeouts

By my count, I have the following pitchers that look to be assigned to the AAA-Buffalo squad:
Starters: Jeurys Famila, Collin McHugh, Mark Cohoon, Chris Schwinden, Dylan Owen, Tobi Stoner, Jeremy Hefner, Chuck James
Relievers: Robert Carson,Elvin Ramirez, Erik Turgeon, Eric Beaulac, Josh Stinson, Eric Niesen, Jack Egbert, Garrett Olsen, Jeff Stevens
In addition, Toby Hyde reported that Pedro Beato may be going back to Buffalo to become a starter in 2012.
We’re a long away from opening day, but 17 pitchers on a AAA roster board, in January, is about up to speed.
Familia, McHugh, Schwinden, Carson, Turgeon, and Stinson seem safe.
The rest have work to do.

· The Wednesday addition of Hot Stove on MLB-TV was dominated by the Joe Torre exit from the MLB offices, plus, a recap of all the people who have put their name into the hat for the LAD bankruptcy judge to pick from.It seemed to me that the runner-ups would make a great list to take out the Wilpons.

· The Mets finally signed someone I’m familiar with. Scott Hairston was a positive force off the Mets bench last season and it’s good to see him back. I assume this is a one-year contract.
Hairston should get the lion share of right-handed pinch hits, based on the other players the Mets have signed so far to come off the bench.

I was thinking yesterday about the Miami Marlins and wondering if they are inviting a world of hurt on their team.

They have a larger than life manager.

They have a disgruntled (displaced) superstar player.

They have a new (injury prone) superstar SS.

They have one of the most volatile starters in baseball (who also hasn't looked so amazing in the past 2-3 years).

Their Ace is ALMOST always hurt.

And... let's face it... recent Miami teams haven't faired so well when trying to "buy" a championship.
