Mack and Company - Barry Larkin

Mack Ade - Barry Larkin is the only player elected to the Hall of Fame this year. Comments, thoughts, stories, etc. ?

Brian Joura - I predicted he'd get 85% - pretty close! - http://mets360.com/?p=8949

David Groveman - Of the names on the ballot I only really expected Larkin to go in. The current list is dominated by people on the border of making it.

Brant Rustich - Barry Larkin is without a doubt one of the best players in his era. In the 90s growing up as a kid I remember Barry Larkin as one of the greats. Always watching him as an all star year after year. He was definitely a stepping stone for shortstops being more than just a glove, but a position that hits. I would without a doubt compare him to Derek Jeter and we all know he's a first ballot HoFer. Looking at his stats, if you play 19 seasons with one team hit .295 as a shortstop with a above average gove as seen winning a couple gold gloves, 9 time silver slugger, have more walks than strikeouts, steal over 300 bases. Definite hall of famer in my book and never linked with any PEDs.

I do feel bad for Jeff Bagwell, obviously hall of fame career but steroid rumors keep him out. Sucks because voters assume without evidence. Just the way it is, if you were a bashed in the 90s and have biceps like thighs I guess everyone assumes you were juicing.

Question, I compare Jeff Bagwell to Mike Piazza. If voters are going to assume Bagwell took steroids, what are they gonna do with Piazza who obviously had a HOF career is eligible next year.

Joe D. - Based on our own MMO vote it was what I expected. It's well deserved and I congratulate Barry on his election to Cooperstown. I enjoyed watching him play throughout his career. He's one of those throwbacks who played his entire career with one team. In this age of greed you don't hardly see that anymore. The numbers are there and he's a class act too - that's a nice combo these days. Congrats, Barry.

Erik Hudson - Barry Larkin never felt like a HoF player to me, but looking at his numbers, I can see the case for him.

The voters need to figure out what to do with the steroids issue. Are they not going to vote anyone in from the last 20 years? Bagwell seems to not be getting votes due to steroids, even though he hasn't been linked to a failed test or the Mitchell report. Fred McGriff's numbers didn't look so big after all the big numbers put up during the steroid era, but if you're going to not put those guys in, shouldn't McGriff's numbers be looked at more positively?

Look at who's coming up for vote in the next few years:

Next year’s ballot will include: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, Craig Biggio, Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza and Kenny Lofton.

The 2014 ballot will include: Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, Frank Thomas, Mike Mussina and Jeff Kent.

The 2015 ballot will include: Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz and Gary Sheffield.
Based on the numbers, a lot of those guys should go in. But several are strongly linked to steroids, some supposedly failed a test, some have been accused, and others you think are clean, but how do you know they are? What if it comes out that a HoF'er used PEDs?

Jay Horwitz - Sorry, not our player

Michael Friere - Even though he was always an "opponent", I always had the utmost respect for Barry Larkin. The consummate professional, in my mind. He could do a little of everything and was the heart of all of the Reds' teams he played for. Too bad we couldn't trade for him! Oh, wait......never mind!

Jack Flynn - Larkin fits all the proper Hall of Fame criteria and is a worthy member of the club. Let's hope Tim Raines gets his due and finds himself enshrined in 2013 - although he suspect he's got a few more years of waiting with the loaded candidate pools of the next two years.

Phillip Evans - He is paving the way for quick power hitting shortstops coming up trying to make it to the show!

David Rubin - It's great that Larkin made it, because he deserves it. However, how Larkin can make it and Alan Trammell doesn't get in makes no sense at all to me...but that's HOF voting for you! And does Jeff Bagwell fall further from the pack next year with so many HUGE names coming due next year???
