I've been waiting for this Mock for a while. MLB Draft Guide is one of my go-to sites for Draft info and they really know their stuff.

- This is an interesting list. I love the attention given to lesser-covered prospects like Hinojosa and Brinson (and even Wiseman and Traver) who all very well might find themselves called in the first round.

- I am not sure if the love for Appel is because everyone talks about him as a first pick. Unless he has an awesome spring, I see Buxton going first or Giolito.

- Unfortunately two players I really want as Mets just do not seem to be slipping to #12 in these mocks (SS Correa and C Zunino).

- First reaction to this was "huh so Roache, Wacha, Weickel, Dahl, and Nick Williams all still on the board along with McCullers? LOTS of options. I would be MORE than fine with McCullers. One of the highest ceilings (if not the absolute highest) of the pitchers in the class.

- In my last draft post, I guess the Rays would take a chance at Nick Williams and be handsomely rewarded for it. Looks like MLB Draft Guide seems to think this might happen as well.

- I am hoping Fried and Trey Williams will both be around by #12 next year.

Well, the season will be starting soon (I'll be at Victor Roache's hme opener), which will get everyone in the proper order.

I expect a big bat (like Michael Choice did) to come out of nowhere, and you will probably see college pitchers go back up because of the lack of media coverage at the high school levels.

I would be fine with adding McCullers to the mix. It would be great if Roache was there too, giving the Mets a tough decision.

Ideally I think there will be at least three of: McCullers, Trey and Nick Williams, Victor Roache, Max Fried, Michael Wacha, Carlos Correa, Stryker Trahan, and some high school rising prospects like Weickel, Dahl, Smoral, etc. We will have a ton of options at #12 but you really have no idea what goes through the heads of the guys making the decision. It would be hard to pass on McCullers for his fastball, Roache for his power, Cecchini for his defense, Nick Williams for his ceiling, Byron Buxton for his five tools and speed, and on and on.

This spring will only narrow this list but the reason I like doing research now is that poor single seasons will plummet players' stock. Even random musings of "experts" that say McCullers is a future reliever has knocked him down from #1 to mid-first round. Drafting is so much about coverage (media and scout), consensus opinion, and who's hot. You can find A+ prospects DEEP in the draft for these very reasons so keeping track of players from this far back is valuable to me. I mean...think about if McCullers has a bad spring. He slips even further. Next thing you know, a former #1 drops to the supplemental round. WE'LL know about this kid's talent but most of the baseball community will not.

Stephen - I agree. It's a good idea to keep an eye on players whose talent has them rated high early as (as you mentioned) any number of insignificant factors can knock down their eventual draft position, enabling astute teams to pick up bargains.
