LAST GAME: The B-Mets racked up a dozen hits and held off a late rally as they beat the Thunder, 6-5, Tuesday night. The offense got going with four runs in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Danny Muno. Erik Goeddel allowed two runs in the bottom of the second, but held Trenton scoreless otherwise. He allowed eight hits in six innings, and struck out a season-high eight batters. Binghamton added to their lead with in the eighth inning with a two-run single by Wilfredo Tovar. Trailing by three in the ninth inning Trenton’s Kyle Roller hit his second home run of the day to make it a 6-5 game, but Jeff Walters struck out Carmen Angelini to end the game for his league-leading 16th save of the season.
BINGHAMTON STARTING PITCHER: LHP Darin Gorski makes his first start of 2013 with the Binghamton Mets. Gorski was transferred from Las Vegas (AAA) on June 12. In the Pacific Coast League, the lefty went 1-1 with a 6.59 ERA in four games (three starts). He was placed on the disabled list on April 27, and has not pitched since. Gorski spent all of 2012 with the B-Mets as a part of their starting rotation. In 24 starts, he finished 9-8 with a 4.00 ERA. Against Trenton, he went 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in two starts. He gave up three earned runs in 14.0 innings on the mound. He was selected by the Mets in the seventh round of the 2009 draft.
TRENTON STARTING PITCHER: LHP Matt Tracy makes his 12th start of the season for the Thunder, and his third against Binghamton. On June 6, he received a no-decision after allowing four runs over 5.2 innings. He also walked a season-high five in a game Binghamton would win, 5-4. On May 6, he earned the win over the B-Mets. The lefty threw 6.1 shutout innings and only gave up one base hit. Opponents are hitting .264 against Tracy. At home in 2013, he has been significantly more effective than on the road. He is 4-0 with a 2.35 ERA in four games (three starts) at Arm & Hammer Park. Opponents are hitting .179 against him at home compared to .312 on the road. In five starts in May, Tracy went 2-1 with a 1.62 ERA.
GREAT START TO JUNE: The B-Mets are 8-1 through the first nine games of June. As a team they are hitting .304 and have scored 55 runs this month (6.11 per game). Cesar Puello leads the league in batting average in June (.515) and has nine extra base hits. The pitching staff has also been strong on the mound; they have posted a 2.56 ERA. Jeff Walters has recorded a save in three of Binghamton’s last four games. He leads the league with 16 saves this season.
ONE-RUN VICTORIES: Three wins during the current five-game winning streak have been one-run victories. Overall in 2013, Binghamton is 10-6 in one-run games. They have won five of their last six games decided by one run.
FIVE-IN-A-ROW: Tuesday’s victory put Binghamton on their second five-game winning streak of 2013. A win on Wednesday would give the B-Mets their first six-game winning streak since 8/26/11 - 9/1/11.
BEST RECORD SINCE 2004: With a record of 39-25, Binghamton is 14 games over .500 for the first time since September 2, 2004 (76-62).
WIN NUMBER 40: A win on Wednesday would be the fewest number of games (66) for Binghamton to reach 40 wins since 1994 (66 games). In 1992, the B-Mets reached 40 wins in 63 games.
THE STREAK CONTINUES: Josh Rodriguez has hit safely in 22 consecutive games, stretching back to May 13. He is hitting .435 (37-85) during the streak, and has 17 RBI. He has tallied multiple hits in 10 games during the streak, including five three-hit games. During this stretch, Rodriguez’s batting average has risen from .241 to .321.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets conclude their three-game series against the Thunder Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM and RHP Cory Mazzoni will throw for Binghamton against LHP Nik Turley for Trenton.
