Colorado Springs 6 - Las Vegas 2

Colorado Springs Sky Sox (37-29) starting pitcher Drew Carpenter (W, 1-3), only allowed two runs in seven innings to lead the team to a 6-2 victory over the Las Vegas 51s (34-32) at Cashman Field.
Carpenter started off strong right away for Colorado Springs getting a 1-2-3 first inning. In the top of the next inning, Matt McBride homered to left field to give the Sky Sox the early, 1-0 lead.

Las Vegas tied the game up in the bottom of the second when Jamie Hoffman grounded out to first base to bring home Ike Davis who led off the inning with a single.

Opposing Carpenter on the mound was right-hander Matt Fox. Fox also had a solid day on the mound, only allowing two runs in six innings of work. Fox allowed his second run of the day in the fifth inning when Corey Dickerson hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to bring home Carpenter to make the score 2-1 Sox.

The back-and-forth affair continued in the bottom of the sixth when the 51s tied the game back up. Mike Baxter began the inning with a single to right field and then stole second. After a ground out by Wilmer Flores, former Sky Sox outfielder Andrew Brown hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Baxter.
In the seventh inning reliever Sean Henn (L, 1-2) relieved Matt Fox and the Sky Sox finally managed to break the game wide open. Henn struck out Lars Davis for the first out of the inning, but then issued a walk to Drew Carpenter, a single to Charlie Blackmon and then a RBI double to Tim Wheeler.

Henn then intentionally walked Dickerson to load the bases and was subsequently replaced by Justin Hampson. The lefty got an immediate out and looked to have the final out of the inning when Ryan Wheeler hit a grounder to Wilmer Flores, but the second baseman overthrew the first baseman to bring home two runs.

New Sky Sox reliever C.J. Fick (S, 1) made his Sky Sox debut in the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings to earn his frst save of the year.

Colorado Springs added one more run in the top of the ninth on a McBride RBI double to secure the win. The Sky Sox now take a 1-0 series lead and will look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead tomorrow when right-hander Parker Frazier (0-0, 10.50) starts in his first ever game as a Sky Sox pitcher against righty Rafael Montero (0-1, 2.70) at 7:05 PM PT.

Sky Sox Notes: Corey Dickerson was 3-3 with a double, walk, and RBI. Dickerson's double was his 18th of the season and his league leading 39th extra-base hit of the year.
