Mets Fall to Jupiter 2-1
PORT ST. LUCIE, FLA. — Ryan Rieger had a walk-off infield single to third scoring Joe Mahoney in the ninth inning as Jupiter defeated the Mets 2-1 in game one of a doubleheader.
The second game of the doubleheader was suspended entering the top of the eighth inning. The Mets and Hammerheads are tied 1-1 in the extra-inning game. The game is scheduled to resume at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday.
In game one, Joe Mahoney hit a solo home run in the fourth to give Jupiter a 1-0 lead.
T.J. Rivera had an RBI single in the fifth to score Cam Maron to tie the score.
Domingo Tapia pitched six innings and allowed one run and five hits while issuing one walk and striking out five. Hamilton Bennett pitched a scoreless seventh. Chasen Bradford suffered the loss in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-4 in the first game of the doubleheader while Donovan Solano and Mahoney both had two hits. Stanton struck out twice against Angel Cuan in the second game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Matt Reynolds had an RBI single to left to score Robbie Shields in the first to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.
Josh Adams delivered an RBI single to right to tie the score in the fifth.
Cuan pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits. Jim Fuller pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Cuan.
After the suspended game on Sunday, the Mets will play the Hammerheads in the series finale with Matt Bowman scheduled to pitch for St. Lucie.
