Welcome Back to Reality, Mets.

At this point, I'm not really sure you can call it a letdown, because that's been happening since the postseaon of 2000 for the Mets. So let's instead look on the brightside. It was a great Saturday for the Mets.....because Wheeler and Montero looked dominant. Let's get excited about Ike Davis actually making contact with the ball.....against a lefty !!!!
Ok, so now that we brought up the positives, and now that we remember our team is going to win about 70-75 games this year, what happens now? Can't it finally be time to bring in some new faces? Starting with coaching.
So let me get this straight. First, you take Gee out too early. Then, you leave Marcum in too long. Then, you watch a reliever (who has pitched way too much to begin with) throw 12 balls out of 13 pitches, and you leave that (lefty) pitcher to face the only real decent (right handed) hitter in the Marlins lineup. What am I missing here.
I've tried to stay away from venting in my articles, but this is rediculous. The coaching staff have no idea out there. First Terry Collins maks some kind of remarks about playing Lagares more (which would be nice considering he's 24, hit over .340 at AAA, and is the best defensive outfielder they have), only to then keep him on the bench again anyway.
By no means am I saying that Quintanilla is a star. But I will say that its kinds nice to have at least one actual hitter come up from the minors after a season hot start, and actually get to play a few games in a row to keep it going.
So Maybe its time. Maybe, When Wheeler 'eventually' gets the call, they need to start Lagares. They need to hopefully give a healthy Travis D a few games in AAA and then start him at Citi Field (you gave it a good April, Buck). And, for the love of God, can someone find a position for Wilmer Flores? All anyone wants to do is trade the only young top hitting prospect the Mets have outside of Travis. And again he is only 21 years old!
It makes absolutely no sense for Terry Collins to state that his goal to put the best players out there to try and win the games. So, on his apparent theory, that means watching Ankiel (yeah, you know, the guy released by the worst team in baseball) strike out 50% of the time. That means playing Scot Rice every single game, no matter what apparently. And yet, for some reason, nobody has a problem leaving in Ike Davis to figure out, because he is the future.
This organization can't have it both ways. They can't state that are trying to win every game, by putting past their prime players on the field. And they can't pick and choose certain 'future players' to support. Time to blow it up. Mainly because its not like things can get much worse by starting Wheeler, Travis D, Montero and Flores. AKA, nothing to lose by giving them experience.

In fairness, Gee has been absolutely terrible this season so even though he was pitching a gem he hasn't "earned" the right for TC not to be skeptical in later innings of a close game. Where as Marcum, now the his "in-season spring Training, is over has been pretty darn good.

The Mets need to send Lagares back to AAA, he's been absolutely terrible in the MLB hitting wise. I dont care how good you are defensively, if your hitting under .200 and are not a pitcher, you shouldnt be on the team.

Flores has a position now....its 2B, he doesn't play it well but neither did Muprhy and he's pretty serviceable now. Flores will get a chance in September no need to rush him.

Lastly in Terry's defense, he has no other choice but to keep bringing in Rice against lefties. He's the only good lefty we have. Carson is TERRIBLE and quick frankly should be on the DFA chopping block soon, Edgin has flamed out, Brydak is on the mend, Feliciano is battling chronic food poisoning, and Leather Rocket is still in AA.

Vent away Dove-man, but it won't do you any good. TC has what we called in the Delta the 'thousand yard stare'. He's out of answers with this 25-man and, frankly, so am I am everyone else that writes about this team.

My suggestion is to sit back and let the next 30 days happen. It will tell you if the team is going forward to change their game plan to 2014.

Wheeler will go to Queens sometime between June 10-15 AND NOT SOONER.

David Aardsma should quickly follow.

Rafael Montero will fill Wheeler's Vegas slot.

Noah Syndergaard will fill Montero's B-Met slot.

And Cesar Puello and Cory Vaughn will be promoted to Vegas.

If these things happen between now and, let's say, July 1st, the team is moving forward for 2014.

If not, watch the Giants or Jets coverage on SNY

Believe me. I'm counting down the days till the New York Football Giants hit the field.

.............It is what it is.....I will probably be writing an article next month about how excited I am about Harvey and Wheeler, and eagerly awaiting Travis D.

.....And Soto, I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Im jusing wondering (pouting) about whether or not Lagares is not good enough, or if getting at bats once a week is the reason he's under .200

And since Flores plays Murhp's position, I don't want to look up 5 years from now and read about Flores making All Star teams for someone else.

I watched Lagares play for three years.

He's a nice man but he's not a major league baseball player.
