Harrisburg Senators (11-22)
(Double-A Affiliate of the Washington Nationals)

RHP Tyler Pill (0-5, 6.38) vs. RHP AJ Cole (3-1, 2.86)

Sunday, May 11, 2014  Game #33  Home Game #20
NYSEG Stadium  Binghamton, NY  1:05 PM  Mother’s Day

LAST GAME: Dustin Lawley ripped a three-run homer and Rainy Lara struck out a season-high seven Harrisburg Senators in the Binghamton Mets’ 5-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Lawley doubled and scored later in the game to lead Binghamton to their third win in four days. Lawley’s three-run homer off Paolo Espino in the second was enough for Lara to earn his third win of the season. Matt Clark added a pinch-hit sac fly and Wilfredo Tovar chipped in with an RBI single in the eighth. Jack Leathersich worked around a leadoff walk in a scoreless ninth, earning his first save of the year.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Pill makes his sixth start of the season and first against the Senators. Pill is fresh off his second straight hard-luck loss. The righty allowed just one earned run over five innings against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 5, but received no offensive support in Binghamton’s 5-0 loss. Pill has compiled a 1.80 ERA (2 ER in 10.0 IP) in his last two starts after surrendering 15 earned runs in his first 14.0 innings of the season (9.64 ERA). Selected in the 4th round of the 2011 draft out of Cal State Fullerton, Pill was limited to four starts with the B-Mets last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury.

HARRISBURG STARTER: RHP AJ Cole makes his seventh start of the season and first career against the B-Mets. Cole tossed six shutout innings to earn the win in his most recent start against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on May 6. He struck out a season-high seven and scattered seven hits. Plucked by the Nationals in the 4th round of the 2010 draft out of Oviedo HS (FL), Cole split last season between Potomac (High-A) and Harrisburg. He went 10-5 with a 3.60 ERA over 25 starts between both levels.

PLAWECKI HEATING UP: B-Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki has hit safely in each of his last seven games. He has hit .393 (11-for-28) during the stretch with three doubles, a home run, four RBI and four multiple-hit games. He has raised his batting average by 48 percentage points.

A LITTLE HELP PLEASE: In his five starts this season, Tyler Pill has received a total of eight runs of support, an average of 1.6 runs per game. All three of Binghamton’s shutout losses this season have come with Pill on the mound. The B-Mets are hitting .192 (29-for-151) in games Pill starts in 2014. They have scored just one run with Pill as the active pitcher.

GOING DEEP: The B-Mets have hit eight home runs in their last five games, going deep at least once in each game during the stretch. Seven different B-Mets have left the yard. They have raised their team slugging percentage to .393, the fifth-best in the league.

LAWLEY LAUNCHING: Dustin Lawley went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a double and two runs scored on Saturday. The B-Met 3B/OF raised his batting average to .200 for the firs time since April 19. His round-tripper was his first home run at NYSEG Stadium and first since April 10.

TOVAR DELIVERING: Wilfredo Tovar punched home a run in the eighth, his 16th RBI of the season. Tovar leads the team and ranks fourth in the league with a .344 batting average. He’s hitting .463 (19-for-41) with runners on this season. The middle infielder is batting .583 (7-for-12) with runners in scoring position and two outs.

GOING FOR THE SERIES WIN: A victory today would secure Binghamton’s fifth series win of the year and snap a stretch of three straight winless series. The B-Mets are 7-2 in series finales and have gone 3-1 on Sundays this year.
