Only one team in MLB has had its starter go at least five innings every game: the New York Mets.

Eddy-Chat –

John (Chicago): Josh and JJ raved about Jacob deGrom in yesterday's podcast, but deGrom didn't make BA's list of the top 65 RHPs. Do you think he'd make that list now?
Matt Eddy: No, I don’t think deGrom would necessarily make that list, but I sure am glad I ranked him in the Mets Top 10 despite an ordinary year in 2013 in terms of ERA, WHIP, etc. DeGrom has a surefire major league arm, but his ceiling doesn’t appear to match many of the game’s top-flight prospects, unless his sinker or slider is now a consistent 70 pitch.

Now that I have lost 99% of the draft research I have gathered (stolen laptop), I’m going to have to approach this draft in a much more informal manner.

We’re all obviously targeted on the 10th pick overall, with the hopes that there will also be some quality players left on the board when pick #85 comes around. Let’s not forget that the majority of the Mets prospects we talk about every day weren’t picked this high. There’s a lot of talent in baseball and this is a very deep draft.

Back to the 10th pick… players are moving up and down the board every week as games play out. NC State LHP Carlos Rodon was a lock as the top pick overall for most of the mock season and now it looks like he could fall to 3rd. NC State SS Trae Turner was once the odds on favorite to be the first shortstop picked, but now it looks like that honor will go to Olympia (FL) H.S. Nick Gordon. And Michael Gettys is all over the place, being in some top 10 lists while falling to the second round on others.
No one ever knows who is going to picked in this sport, but, right now we can look at some trends:

RHP – locks for the top 10 are Shepherd (TX) H.S. Tyler Kolek and East Carolina’s Jeff Hoffman. Vanderbilt’s Tyler Beede is falling while both LSU’s Aaron Nola and Conway (SC) H.S. Grant Holmes seem safe. Late bloomer Stone Bridge (VA) HS Jacob Bukaukas and Coral Springs (FL) H.S. Touki Toussaint’s name will still be on the board.

LHP – Cathedral Catholic (CA) H.S. Brady Aiken is now projected to be the top overall pick, bumping Rodon to being literally tied with Kolek. Right now, they remain the only locks in the top 10 picks; however, Evansville’s Kyle Freeland is right there.

C – Only Rancho Bernardo (CA) H.S. Alex Jackson is a sure top 10 pick.

SS – There were three ‘locks’ most of the mock season, but, right now, only Olympia (FL) H.S. Nick Gordon seems safe. NC State’s Turner may be available at #10 while Clovis (CA) H.S. Jacob Gatewood looks like he has fell to a late first round pick at best.

OF - Frankly, right now, there is no lock for any of the outfielders to be picked in the top 10 picks. San Francisco's Bradley Zimmer is just there.

Comment From Minor League Pitching Prospect - Who’s the best and potentially most impactful arm currently in the minors? Is it still Archie Bradley? He’s been off to a rough start this year and is now dealing with elbow soreness. Gausman? Bauer?!?

Dave Cameron: I find almost all of the current crop of “top pitching prospects” overrated. Noah Syndergaard is about the only one I think is worth the hype

I would think 10 or so of those minor league pitchers will see significant time in the bigs. Exciting.
And the Tommy John twins (Hefner and Mateo) should be back pitching soon, I'd imagine.
After reading that food list, I'm moving to the Bronx.

When did deGrom become the Rodney Dangerfield of baseball? His era is still under 2........Harvey and wheeler were nowhere close to putting up these numbers when they were in the PCL. ...if Thor or Montero had his numbers so far this year, the fans would be half rioting on social media for them to promoted immediately. ............
Again, as I've said for a while, I'll never understand the idea of player projections and player ' ceiling'........
Lagares anyone???

Ernest - teams seem to get their minds set on who comes first and deGrom really wasn't ever in the plans to be part of a future Mets rotation. It will be interesting to see what they do with him.

Hey guys, should we be worried about Colon? I know he said something about a back issue leading up to his last terrible outing. And last night was obviously in Colorado, so I don't know if that really counts either...........with Mets now seemingly having 3 capable starters right now in Vegas, we need colon to throw quality starts to keep amazins in the 2014 playoff hunt, and/or to give us high trade value.

"Only one team in MLB has had its starter go at least five innings every game: the New York Mets." Not any more...

I think this is what you are going to get with Colon.... 2 or 3 good outings then a clunker... all of them will have lots of innings regardless how he pitches
