5/3/15

Minor League Recap - 5-2-15

Minor League Player of The Night - Noah Syndergaard, with a second straight dazzler. After the game was over, he and Steve Matz were seen in the clubhouse singing the old Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton classic, "I can do anything you can do better, I can do anything better than you.  No you can't, yes, I can."  Both have been tremendous lately.

Honorable Mention - Cory Vaughn, with 2 for 2, including a 2 run jack. He is suddenly HOT. Let's not overlook the 3 guys in St Lucie (Conforto, McNeil, and Urena) who each had 3 hits.

AAA - Las Vegas - (15-8) 3 - Poor Reno (9-14) 0

    RHSP Noah Syndergaard - 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 10 K

   SS Matt Reynolds 1-2, 2 BB, SB (6), .330

   LF Cory Vaughn, 2 for 2, HR (2), 2 RBI, 2 BB, .283.

Vaughn's 6th inning dinger was key support for Thor in this close, low scoring affair. Vaughn has gone from glacial to smoking hot the last few games.  I (Brennan) was saying if he did not pick it up, they should consider releasing him. He shut my mouth.  Good.  When guys like Vaughn hit well, it feels like this team might never lose another game.

AA - Binghamton (14-8) 2 - New Hampshire (12-11) 1

    RHSP Luis Cessa -  5.0-IP, 7-H, 1-R, 5-K, 0-BB, 2.14

Mack - Cessa's 3rd (out of 4) quality starts this season, rebounding from giving up four runs on 4-25

    SS Gavin Cecchini -  2-3, 1-R, double, .354

Mack - another shortstop bat that seems to be developing; however, he has four errors so far in 15 games played

The B Mets, like the Vegas team, are on a roll.  And after a slow start, C Xorge Carillo is up to .302. Sewald with his 4th save...he just always is effective.

A+ - St. Lucie (12-11) 6 - Bradenton (11-12) 3

    RHSP Rob Whelan -   4.1-IP, 5-H, 2-R, 4-K, 1-BB, 1.96

    SS Amed Rosario -  2-4, 2-R, double, .261

    LF Michael Conforto  -  3-5, 1-RBI, .315

Jhoan Urena also had 3 hits to climb over .200, and scorching Jeff McNeil (.346) did too. Dominic Smith had a terrible return nite with the bat, with an 0-4 and 3 Ks. The Lucies still managed 15 hits, and hope to reel off a bunch of wins as they seem to be ready to roll.

A - Lakewood (12-11) 4  - Savannah (7-15) 0

    RHSP Josh Prevost -  6.2-IP, 6-H, 4-R, 5-K, 3-BB, 6.38

    RHRP Jimmy Duff - 1.1-IP, 3-H, 0-R, 1-K, 0-BB, 3.00

Savannah has a weak hitting squad and cannot get untracked.  Prevost's line looks worse than he pitched, as Jimmy Duff relieved him with 2 outs in the 7th and promptly allowed 2 inherited runners to score.

Vaughn should have birthdays more often, having turned 26 on May 1. On Apr 30 thru May 2, Vaughn went 7 for 8 with 2 walks. Out of nowhere, seemingly, but maybe the start of a turnaround for him.

Vaughn has always been streaky with far more bad streaks than good ones

Hmmm, a tradeoff... if he had birthdays more often he would soon find himself in his 30s
